I am a guitar lover, I love the way santana can burn beauty into my soul with his sprawling solos, I love the way hank marvin makes the instrument sing like no other man can.

Stevie ray vaughan batters my senses with relentless fast picking drenched in whiskey and the blues.

Brian may enriches my day with melodic and unique sounds only he seems to be able to play.

Jimmy page rips through me with the basis for hard rocking riffs.

Hendrix plays what I don't expect, yet I want to hear his next note somehow.

Peter Green is in his own league with smooth blues sounds leaking from his guitar onto a Fleetwood Mac track or two, along with his spine tingling voice.

There are many others who bring utter joy to the listener, can you guys help me find them?

Who's style do you love, what makes them special, show us your passion.

Excellent choices.
But you forgot :

The raw gutwrenchingly sexy bass of Jean Jacques Burnel Wub

Excellent, someone I haven't heard of, this is my idea of this thread, those of us myself included who see suggestions unfamiliar to them go check that out immediately.

Thanks!

Zakk Wylde - The sheer speed, brutality and crazy sounds.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdA4ciUrH-k

James Hetfield - Awesome rhythm player, huge fat riffs usually played at warped speed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_C2vSge6Bs&feature=related

Johnny Cash - really emotive guitar player

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmxB2BwVufA&feature=fvst

Rodrigo y gabriela - flamenco style, have covered lots of music and put their own spin on it, my favourite being Metallica's 'Orion

Fuck yes! If you like them, check out the album 'Nocturne' by The Human Abstract, their guitarists are phenomenal.

Dave Davis from The Kinks - You Really Got Me
Man he can shred...Possibly the godfather of metal.

Johnny Winter - An Albino who plays the blues like his life depended on it.

Bernard Sumner - Warsaw/Joy Division. Listen to Unknown Pleasures or get the Warsaw LP. Totally underrated guitarist.

Which leads me to Tom Verlaine(Television)..Steve Diggle(Buzzcocks) Lou Reed...yes that most awkward of guitarists Laughing
Robert Quine - Another troubadour

You want some fret wanking by now Thumbs Up

Alvin Lee - Ten Years After. Why use one note when 20 will do.
Jeff Beck.
Townsend
Oo Oo Mick Ronson. Not a Fret runner, but an iconic sound creator.

Segovia. Fingers like sausages..will make Satriani look jaded.
Paco de Lucia - Another fantastically gifted wooden box strung with gut player.

Who could omit Zappa..Dick Dale.

I like guitar based music. Probably 80% of my music have guitars on them. Funny that they were never considered a proper instrument at one time.

I could go on...and on

John Williams. Simply perfection.

Adrian Legg. The man just sounds as though he has 12 fingers on each hand.

In no particular order

Zakk Wylde (Solo / Pride & Glory / Black label Society / Ozzy) - instantly recognisable guitar sound

Dave Mustaine (Megadeth / MD45) - awesome rhythm player

Joe Satriani (Solo / Chickenfoot) - fretwanking maybe, but melodic with it

Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme)

Erik Mongrain (check out "Air Tap" on you tube)

Andy Mckee (you tube again..."Drifting")

I would much rather listen to an acoustic guitar played like the two tunes above, rather than insane tuneless fretwanking by the likes of Yngwie Malmsteen or Micheal Angelo Batio - he plays a guitar with 4 necks ffs.
