Watching News at Ten and was appalled at the sheer number of whinging, sour-faced nanny-me-help-me-fucks moaning about the lack of help they have getting home.

"Why haven't they sent more Navy ships? It's the governments fault!"

Boo-hoo you're stuck in Spain or France or Italy. Oh dear let me pour another Chianti while I wait for flights to start again. More paella dear chap?

Shouldn't have sent any sodding ships. Hire a car or stay a few more nights. Shit happens. Muppets.

And I bet they will whine about how much it cost to send the invincible over to them too (it is a lot!)

Hideous isn't it.

On the first day of the grounding there was some bint on Sky News twatting off about how it's the airline's fault she's stuck halfway home and they should have to pay her loads in compensation

Yesterday on the train there was an old bat saying that it was disgusting that the Govt weren't doing more about it - like what?! FFS!!

Shit happens that you can't predict, it gives you a ballache, such is life, stop looking for someone to blame!!

Yeah was talking about this the other day, we agreed that in such a situation you just ride it out on the credit card and worry about it when you get home, whats the alternative, sit in a fucking airport for days on end? Spend the same amount of money you'd pay for a cheap ass hotel and food and drink for however many days to travel across europe to get home....and do what? Probably really upset because they aren't getting their Coronation Street fix, fuck me, if I had a choice of coming home to this cack hole and say being stuck in Spain, I know which I'd fucking prefer.

It's like when the Reds and Yellows shut down Bangkok aiport 2 weeks before I was due to go, I was praying that they'd do a repeat performance when I was due to come back, yet on the news all they would do is fackin whinge.

The wife's due back from the States soon, and is now contemplating going to Madrid, so instead of a 150 mile round trip to pick her up from Heathrow, I might be looking at a 2,300 mile jolly. Maybe I could charge £500 a seat if anyone else desperately needed a lift back. Would be worth sticking a roof box on so I could put the extra two seats in the back, too.

I'm surprised that no one has realised how much they could make by getting a couple of coaches over to France.

Personally I'd go down the Cuban/Somali route. Get a boat, charge them £500 each for travel to the UK then dump them in the channel and go back for more.

Well that might be more to the fact that the ferries were kind of full, much like the Eurostar you could see the seats online but when you came to book them they stopped you just before payment, same with the ferries, so many turn ups that if you did turn up in a coach and or van you'd get stuck on the french side.

Have never really understood why it costs so much to send military ships, planes etc. around the world.

Apart from consumables, such as fuel, what are the additional costs?

Fine, bye. not doing it for fuck all.

Now my other half is on a coach back because they didn't want to wait for me to get there (2 days) and have paid £300 each to get to london

This sort of reminds me of the BA strikes, all these middle class people mithering on about how their holiday has been ruined. There are some desperate stories like the wee lad who needed to get hom for his mother funeral (A business man paid £5k for him to get home...)

But for the most part, I find the site of some over-fed face on the telly moaning away uniquely irritating. Although when some self centred solipsistic arse realised that in fact no, the world does not revolve around them; it can be quite entertaining.

I had an idea about the volcano. I thought we could send Tommy Lee Jones and a band of affable B list actors (of all ethnicities) to plug the volcano and divert the ash cloud with nothing more than good ol' 'mercan ingenuity, bravery and some road signs. While doing so, they could also reinforce a sense of togetherness between the races by having a small blond haired boy point out that due the ash cloud "...everyone is black now..."

I fucking hate that film. Mad

Well it looks like my flights are all going ahead so fingers crossed it all stays good Thumbs Up

Flying: Rangoon-Bangkok-Amsterdam-Glasgow. Looked like the main problem was gonna be getting out of Bangkok and then getting stuck in Amsterdam.
But I'm with GhostRider on this, whats the worse that can happen, I have to stay in either Amsterdam or Bangkok for a few nights Laughing I can think of worse things TBH. I wouldnt exactly be crying for the Royal Navy to come get me (which was a huge "vote for Gordon" stunt) I'd just have to be content with either cheap booze and ladyboys or cafe's and window shopping Very Happy

(Although I am missing my Corrie fix Sad. Luckly my missus recorded most of them so I'll be able to watch the lesbian kiss that i missed Very Happy )

Just watched it on YouTube...

Sad shite.

Why cant Corrie have the odd late night episode Very Happy

I've got the DVD of the Romanian Holiday with Roy and Hayley, which includes a fantastic performance in a bikini from Becky. Very Happy Thumbs Up
Not exactly in the Late Night Hollyoaks class for flesh and sex, but at least the writing and acting was 100x better.

My heart bleeds for these poor souls, who have 1 of their 6 holidays a year interrupted by an act of god, and cannot cope with the prospect that there isn't someone to blame or someone to save them.

This was supposed to be a great county once, adapt and overcome, stiff upper lip etc.

Itchy wrote:

It would cost a lot if they were actually doing it. Invincible has been mothballed for years. No idea where you read that.

Media spin probably has as much to do with it as anything. Doubt you will be able to find an educated breakdown of the costs, it just sounds better to say "OMG EXPENSIVE!!111!"

In my opinion the military does not exist to cart rich fuckwits back from their holiday.

Interesting to illustrate our massive dependance on air travel in the 21st century though. If anyone was in any doubt about "climate change" being a nonsense all about making money; Observe that concerns for the environment die down to a mere whisper when mother nature herself interupts our precious social routine, irony much.

I like the American/Asian airline response, 'not our problem'.

It would appear that the insurance companies and airlines are now expecting the government to bail them out by covering their costs, I think the Government should quote the Asican response.

I heard on radio 4, so it must be true, that Thompson were covering all costs, a significant amount, for anyone that had taken a package holiday with them and yet they were still receiving complaints and demands for compensation.

They said a carrier I assumed either the Ark Royal or the Invincible.

Hmm so it seems the UK only has one carrier then?

well there building another 2 at the moment so there getting rid of the old models i reckon.

i wish i went on holiday before the volcano erupted, i'd gladly pay to stay at my destination a few more days that spend just as much money to travel by car/bus etc which will take aaaages and so much more hassle.

even though the eruption is an act of god it didnt cause the flights to be cancelled, the bans did and it appears that the ban wasnt neccessary all over europe so there could be claims made there.

quite easy to call people whingers who wish to get home,

one of my collegues is stuck in egypt atm and has been now for 5/6 days, hes saved up for his holiday all year, and cant afford to stay there with his two kids,

- 2 small children stuck abroad
-no money
- been robbed at the airport
- loss of earnings as they cant get back to work
- kids missing school now

i disagree with people screaming for compo, but can understand why people are getting upset.

Proximate cause - not an insured peril - unless policy specifically extends to deem a ban by an appropriate authority Damage and does not add but excluding due to safety concerns then Insurers aren't liable. It'd be a very poorly drafted policy wording.

Insurers are now starting to consider, note not accept liability for compensation for expenditure caused by the disruption where this is not otherwise recoverable via the normal channels, ie ABTA

I've seen this more and more often, bookies not honouring bets when they lose their shirts.

Insurers not paying out

Recovery companies not recovering when you;ve bought cover.

The most ridiculous insurance policy was for my dad a couple years ago that stated if you died of ANYTHING or were injured and or hurt by anything you were not covered, unsurprisingly he didn't buy it.

So why bother getting insurance in the first place? it is like full comp insurance, if you get raped back on loaded premuims such that the insurer gets back double or triple the amount you lost, then what is the point of using more than TPO insurance?

Exatamundo. The parasites have you over on excess and increased premiums, so what the feck use is insurance other than to a third party? The square root of nada.

Which is why the entire insurance industry for vehicles should be taken over by the govt and provided on a cost-basis. ANYthing that is legally required should not be in the hands of the private sector, because it's never anything other than a criminal abuse.

Currently operational yup, the Ark. Illustrious is refitting until early 2011.

They have a big helicopter carrier called Ocean, but its a real POS and can just about break 18 knots, glorified passenger ferry.

Meanwhile we wait for the arrival of the two planned Queen Elizabeth class carriers, which have already been delayed by two years of their planned completion date.

It would be of no surprise to me if the second one never arrived at all.

And sorting out the new STOVL variant of the JSF (or now called Lightning II) to actually fly from the things is another catastrophe waiting to happen entirely. Glad I didn't bother sticking around there to wait for it.

One thing I never realised before this fracus is the way that planes really do make an impact on the sky.

I've never seen such clear days earlier this week. Look up at the sky today and there are vapour trails everywhere.

Yeah, the skies have been surprisingly clear and blue this week for something that is supposed to be full of ash so dangerous that it would be raining planes if they tried to go up there.
