Compared to the LC and the YPVS, the R1 is for gays.

Wink

I'm tempted by both, but I already have a garage full of RD's. I do need some spares though, like a rear wheel for the LC and a new engine for the YPVS!

You'll probably ride it and go 'So what?' but they are great bikes. When my LC is MOT'd you can have a quick blat on it if you promise to be careful!

Don't bother, ride a TZR instead, they are far superior Wink

Well it has 100ccs less than the YPVS, and it has powervalves which means the power delivery is a little bit bland.

I rode my LC to the MOT place and back at the weekend (I took the 'non motorway' route back because it had a bit of a weave at 70mph) and I have to say it is probably the maddest bike I've ever ridden. I wouldn't call it peaky exactly but the step into the powerband at about 4-5000rpm is completely crazy. When I first rode it, I wheelied it without trying...

The YPVS feels like more of a point to point weapon to me. Loads of creamy smooth power right up to the redline, light, flickable and really nice neutral handling. No weaves at 70. You could really embarrass some big bikes on it. The TZR is a good bike, but compared to the YPVS its too small and not quite powerful enough, and compared to the LC its just not mad enough.

I'm definately falling in love with the LC, but the valve is the better bike I reckon. I'm swaying towards keeping them both tbh... and the engine is out of the valve for a rebuild which could mean me spending lots of cash... I'm currently thinking of asking how much Stan Stephens would charge for a 4mm stroker Banshee crank... Embarassed I can't see it being that much more than a crank rebuild...

TZR's are good, but the engine is a bit dull. A hybrid of the YPVS engine and the TZR chassis would be quite good but I doubt it'd be straightforward. For the hassle you'd be better sticking it in a KR1 or RGV (or dare I say it, a Mito) and get modern wheel sizes as well as an alloy frame.

I'm not convinced that the Mito is a good choice. I reckon Stan Stephens idea of putting it in an Aprilia RS250 chassis is about the best.

Still, I don't want to do that (at least not yet). I like my steel cradle framed RDs! Very Happy

Hi

From memory the power valve engine is longer than the TZR250 engine and so not really an easy fit into the TZR frame.

Old RD400 could be fun, and tempted with a LC. But then I am also tempted with a power vavle.

All the best

Keith

Looks like you need a new tacho. Power only really starts at 6k on a LC. Thumbs Up

No, I need to:

a) Stop it running so rich, the plugs are completely clean where they are washed off by petrol so I suspect I'm losing out at the top end a bit

b)Fix the rear brake drum

c) Get it to pass an MOT so if I'm pulled over I don't get shafted

THEN I can explore the higher end of the rev range! Smile

the rd range are by far the best 2stroke bikes ive ridden. As for dropping the rd engine into a different frame it is sacreligious.
i personally preffer the 250 lc as apposed to the 350 ypvs. hitting 6000 rpm with the throttle pinned is like being kicked in the teeth.
