I am looking for some depressing songs.

Although this isn't exactly what I am looking for, this is in the ball park. Not looking for slow songs, they need to be fairly quick but depressing and saddening.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXuXikfIYHY Watching that reminded me how much win depressing songs are made of. Gary Jules' original is also awesome.

Anything by the Smiths. Or Leonard Cohen if you can put up with it being slow.

All the best

Some may remember from the end of the film, The Mist.

Not really depressing but definitely an awesome tune.

if a song is depressing normally it isn't upbeat and pop - like the tears for fears original mad world...

doesn't make sense in my view...

something like this however is depressing:

Radiohead, coldplay, nirvana are all avenues to explore.

Try Cooper Temple Clause' Kick up the fires and let the flames break loose.

Mixture of tracks really, some slow some faster, some of it electronica some heavy metal (or thrash or what ever its called.)

The point is, it's a bit of a miserable headfuck, in that it's deeply unhappy but also a bit strange.

Covering relationship breakups, suicide, loss in general, going crazy with obsession... All sorts of shit with a surreal, sometimes angry, sometimes dreamy soundtrack. 'Promises Promises' did well in the charts, its fast and miserable and about obsession. 'Talking to a Brick Wall' is my favourite on the album, just check out the lyrics if you're feeling a bit out of place or disconnected. I can sort of apply it to my life, disturbingly enough, not because I wanted to do some of the things mentioned, but because I felt I had no choice.

Anyway, all good miserable shit and thoroughly enjoyable if you enjoy nurturing your unhappiness.

Wink

Don't really find music to be depressing, even "depressing" music.. not that I don't get it or feel it, it just doesn't depress me... sure, it can take you places and make you think and sometimes leave you cold but the word "depressing" doesn't enter my musical vocabulary. I actually don't like hearing people say this or that is depressing.

If I had to use the word "depressing" to describe music it would probably be for the vast majority of the UK charts in the last 10 years.

Anyway..

Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We are Floating in Space (some journey)

A lot of Pink Floyd stuff will leave you cold.

Smashing Pumpkins, as mentioned, are good at it... as well as The Smiths, obviously.

William Orbits albums can have some effect on you if you're in the right mood.

Sinead O'Conner - but, i'm a bit fed up with her singing about the same over and over again.

meh.

Radiohead - Nude

The Cinematic Orchestra - Dawn

Broken Social Scene - bandwitch

Not really depressing but you wouldn't listen to them at a party of to uplift the mood. Great songs none the less.

Pink floyd anything off the wall or the final cut albums are particularly depressing (although I say powerful) Early Marillion (when Fish was lead singer) are also a bit raw. Thumbs Up
