I just passed my driving test last week and I've since been having a nosey at cars and insurance prices. I'm 23, live in a good area but have no NCB or anything like that. I've been quoted around £1000 for some generic hatchbacks (306's, corsa's etc etc) which is crap quite frankly but I've heard of a lot of people going down the classic car route.
I'd like an interesting car and don't mind if it's a bit older (80's maybe?) and have heard there's some really good deals to be had on classic insurance. Only problems are that you're supposed to have access to another vehicle so I'm wondering if bikes would count as I still have my bikes insured and that a lot of places want the car garaged but I don't have a garage so there's not much I can do about that.
I have a soft spot for Peugeot 205 GTI's and they can be had quite cheaply if you look around (which is another major factor in me getting a car, has to be cheap!) so was wondering if anyone had experience of putting these on classic insurance policies? Or any experiences with classic car insurance at all? ____________________ Now: '00 Kawasaki ZRX1100R - Past: '84 Yamaha DT125, '89 Kawasaki KLR600, '97 Yamaha XJ600N

Not sure a 205 GTI would count as a classic car would it? I blew my wifes 205 GTI up on the M11, she weren't happy ____________________ carbon bling |

My 205 gti is currently insured on a classic policy through HIC. I pay £980 but that's with all modifications (including 16v engine) declared and I'm 22, that was with 0ncb (as that was used on another car)
It does however include trackday insurance, European cover and I can drive other cars (which I insisted on).
Main problem is you can't cancel the policy and can only swap it to cars over 15 years old.

I'm not sure how much you regard as "cheap" for a 205 though but bear in mind a dog will take alot of work. |

Hi
We have classic insurance on a car and some bikes.
As Phoenix says, most insist that you are 25. Limited mileage is almost certain, but how limited will vary. Most will insist it is garaged and likely that you have another vehicle. Quite likely they will insist that you have had your licence for quite a while. Also quite likely that there will be a minimum age for the vehicle (varies between companies, but 25 years old isn't unusual, although Aon will do classic insurance at 10 years old).
All the best
