Just wandering wether anyones had any info on this bike, ie. Power output and wether its actually reasonably 'alright' as a day to day bike?
I have been looking at the SG version i think, made between '87 and '89 as far as i can tell. There doesn't seem to be much info on the net, so i'm trying to find someone who's actually had/got one Laughing

Will be hoping to maybe get one of these after my test hence me asking about power.

Thanks in advance dudes Thumbs Up

i think power output is around 35hp??
probably around 32-35ish, so alright as a day to day..
its a Honda, so next to no worries Smile Thumbs Up
Ive only ridden a 1986 CB250N, i would use that as a day to day, cant imagine the 350 being too different?

Despatcher's bike in the late 80s so check everything carefully before buying. My mate used one for courier work and didn't break it, he was heavy handed so they must have been pretty reliable back then. Looked like a fancy framed 250/400 superdream.

These CB350s are prized by the Classic Racing crowd, they can be made to be pretty rapid.

I have a 76 CJ360T, but couldn't tell you much about it as far as reliability/handling wise, as I'm still on L's and a CG125...but am getting closer to being able to ride it and am far more familiar with the wiring and carbs that I want to be

Have tried to see what an 80's CB350 looks like but not finding any pics online

I assume its a 4 stroke parallel twin similar to mine?

Go any pics of it?

Regards
Rob

Edited to add , as soon as I changed the search to cb350SG I got the pics of it (rather than 80's cb350)
Pretty different looking compared to the 70's bikes I had in mind

had a couple, unburstable but wish we had the 450 version instead!

discs and calipers are impossible to find used, but discs are plain non floaters and made by most disc manufacturers

lots were despatched including the first one I had/rebuilt, came from a courier firm in digbeth that had a fleet of them, mate worked for them and they used to do things like ride the entire M42 in fourth flat out, the only way they managed to break one was to remove the dowel pin from the oil pump, the engine is very similar to a superdream, the balance shaft was the first to seize, I basically threw the balance chain and balance weights in the bin as the front shaft was welded into the cases, replaced the main and big end shells, threw it back together and rode around on it for a few weeks before offloading it because I was unemployed at the time, bought a CB250RS after and it was no slower due to the huge weight loss

This is the most recent one i've found on ebay, if it was nearer and if i'd passed my test i'd definately think about going to look at it.

Hmm...... that could be a problem for the whole 33hp thing. So if it were to be something like 35hp, surely i wouldn't have to pay stupid amount of dosh to restrict it by 2bhp would I? Or could i argue that it was 35hp when it rolled out of the factory, now 23 years have passed a few horses have escaped?

Typical Honda then Laughing

Do you reckon some parts may be interchangeable between the two? Supposing that superdream parts are any easier to get hold of? Thinking
Cheers for the input guys

its been 18 years since i rebuilt the engine, but I do remember I used a superdream haynes manual for the rebuild as they never did one for the 350S, same set up inside of a large casting bolting the crank to the upper case, with the balance chain and weights attached, and the the lower crankcase suspended below that so many parts could be the same but they're that reliable I would doubt you'll need much, not like owning and RD350 of similar vintage

Did something go wrong with the bike that meant that you needed to re-build it, or did you just do it because you wanted to?

They do sound like a fairly decent bike, i'm nearing the end of doing my tests (Mod 1 passed yesterday! Woooooo Mr. Green ) So should hopefully be getting one of these sometime this year, or maybe the Bros 400 if i can find one of them first Laughing. Although i do think they look a little bit 'boring' compared to the cb350 Thinking, but i definately wouldn't be upset if someone gave me one Laughing

as my per my first reply, i bought the bike that had been vandalised by the couriers by removing the oil pump drive pin, they did it this malevolently so the engine would seize even though it was full of oil, i replaced the main and big end shells, and it went on to do many more miles after that

Hi

I would doubt they really made 35hp, although the 450 version claimed 44hp.

Being an 80s Honda, do not expect it to be well made and reliable. Certainly not compared to modern things (although the engine should be far better than the CBX550 and the like). Do expect to change the oil very regularly (Superdream oil change interval was every 1800 miles from memory).

All the best

Keith

Hi

Electrically almost certainly better. Engine wise almost certainly worse (excluding the GSX250).

All the best

Hi

The Superslug / Wet Dream engine wasn't that bad for cam chains. They were a weak point, but would last reasonably. Certainly better than some 80s Hondas where at first you were lucky of the cam chain lasted until the first service.

All the best

Just thought i'd update to try and squeeze some more info from some previous cb350 owners Laughing

Basically, i havent passed my test yet (i'm working on it) But i am looking for a bike to get so i've got one ready for when i do pass.
Had a look on ebay last night and saw this;
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HONDA-CB-350-S-FULL-MOT-1988-E-REG-/200466378168?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Motorcycles&hash=item2eacba2db8

I sent the guy an e-mail with a few questions, one of which was asking wether any engine work had been done. He said in the time he's had it (1 year) theres been no engine work and he has no idea if its ever had any done Confused This worries me as the milage is reasonably high at around 44k and i'm not sure how long the camchain in it will last (Do they last longer in a twin compared to a single???) I had to change mine in the Gs at around (According to the clocks) 19k.

Basically i'd just like to know of any things to be especially weary of, seeing as i'll be going on my own, i dont want to miss anything out! I know the basics to watch for so i think i'll be ok Praying

Any pointers welcomed and karma may be received! Karma

Also, i asked the guy if he knew the power output and he seemed to have similar trouble finding out. He said he explained it to his insurance and they were fine with it Mr. Green

nice and solid bike if its been looked after.

will get you to 90 on a good day, bad days itll sit at 70ish.

parts are pretty hard to come by second hand.

from what i read up, they put out 34BHP when they were new.
(still wanting to get mine dyno'd to see what its got left in it now)

they are pretty heavy too, so try not to drop it Wink

Went to see it this morning, and i was quite pleased overall.
Firstly i was pleased that i actually got there by the help of google maps on my phone (Took a few wrong turns) Laughing

The bike is a bit tatty, few bits of surface rust on the exhaust and shocks but i sat on it, started it up and then Smile Very Happy Mr. Green !

He rode it up and down his street a few times so i could hear it, it sounded good apart from a little tinny noise when he was pulling away/coming to a stop.
He was a nice enough guy, said he'll be in all day so i can bring my uncle along so he can have a look. Running out of time though, bidding finishes in about 4 hrs! Shocked
