Just come back from a few days around the Snowdonia area, rode up from Tonypandy in the Rhondda on my virago 125,my nephew rode a 125 Honda Pantheon Scooter, the bike was loaded up with a 30 ltr Vango Rucksack, no problems at all, stayed in bunkhouses so no tent or cooking stuff, only a sleeping bag, clothes and a few odds and ends required, total distance travelled was about 310 miles, superb mountain and costal roads, the mountain roads between Tregaron and Abergwesyn and then down to Llandovery was a challenge but well worth it. the costal road between Dolgellau and Aberdovey in what Biking is all about. We stayed in 2 Hostels\Bunkhouses on the way, Braich Goch Inn\Bunkhouse at Machynlleth £15, Dolgoch Hostel at Tregaron £12.Riding a smaller bike when camping limits you only on the amount of kit you can take, the roads in the UK and Europe are generally good and it is well within a small bikes capabilities to travel far. Please don’t be put off when you see the big BMW with boxes like suitcases and SatNavs like TV’s this is not Alaska, the fun is about minimisation and the love of the open spaces and not what power microwave you can take.

Good man Viragogaz, that's what it's all about. I rode a Kawasaki Z200 (a bit 'hairy-chested' compared to a 125) around Scotland, to a rally in Holland, and two trips to France from here in the Midlands and I used it for years commuting to-and-fro work. Never underestimate where you can go on a small bike, there are a multitude of posers on big stuff that never go anywhere but sit on their arses watching the telly !.

Other people like riding roads and tracks at reasonable speeds, each to their own I believe is the phrase used Smile.

Glad you had fun anyway - yesterday I was practicing trials on a c90, but doesn't mean I'd choose one in a lot of situations Smile.

I have done some stuff - kickstart's got lots more bikes than me and lots of 125s!
Think I'm only at 9/10 - of those 6 'active' ones + minimoto - with the latest one being the aforementioned c90; just sold the 125 and bought a 250 of a different genre for the same money.

If you pick the right trip and the right roads then a 125 is a nice way to tour. Pick wrong and try to take on too much distance per day and it turns into a slog. I've toured quite a bit on a Honda 90 in the past, even slower than a 125. Good fun, but progress is extremely slow and boring roads where you could just wind open the throttle on a big bike become a nightmare.

I've got vague plan is to go to France at some point on my YBR125. Just travelling very light, pottering around the countyside, spending a few quid a day on fuel/beer/campsite etc, see where the road takes me sort of thing. Like being on a bicycle tour, just a bit quicker!

Of course, in theory you can potter along on a 600, but in practise (speaking personally) it never quite works out like that!

Cheers ed, your trips sound the business, I am not knocking the big guys, just making the point if you do ride a low powered machine etc
