Got a non working brake light here well sort of, obviously most likely the bulb. There is something wierd which ive never come across before happening though. Basically when i noticed the back light wasnt working the brake light however was when pressed. Looked at the bulb today to see if it was black and put it back in and the back light or brake light was permant on with no brake light when pressed. and when taken out and turn the bulb around to the opposite way then the light would be permanently off with the brake light working as it was originally, is this just the workings of a dodgy bulb, seems a little odd.

It's a dual filament bulb, by turning it around you basically turned the brake light filament into the tail light one (which has blown). Time for a new bulb.

I'm surprised that you were able to reverse the orientation of the bulb. A 21w / 5w stop and tail light bulb usually has a stepped bayonet fixing that prevents this.
