No, you can ride a 50, you have to do a CBT to ride a 125.

You can ride a 50cc with L plates if you passed your car test before 2001.

I would reccomend doing the CBT because you get to learn a little about road saftey of a moped, developing the 6th sence we seem to have and 50cc's are sh#t slow.

Thumbs Up

CBT must be done unless you live in Northern Ireland. Where the CBT does not exist Laughing

From direct.gov.uk:
Quote:
Compulsory basic training (CBT) was introduced in 1990 to help reduce the very high accident rate among inexperienced motorcyclists. CBT must be completed before a learner moped or motorcycle rider is allowed to ride on the road with L-plates or D-plates in Wales.

and
Quote:
You will need to complete a CBT if:

You want to ride a motorcycle
You want to ride a moped

A moped has an engine not over 50 cc with maximum design speed not exceeding 50 kilometres per hour which is approximately 31 miles per hour

If you obtained your car licence before 1 February 2001 you do not need to complete a CBT to ride a moped.

Actually, you can ride a moped (50cc and restricted to just over 30mph) without L plates and carry a passenger. No motorways though. Mr. Green

I passed my car test in 1998

Without CBT I could ride 50cc bike and didn't have to display L-plates. With CBT I could ride 125cc bike but I had to display L-plates.
