It is ok to use a hifgher than standard wattage for a bulb as long as the volts are correct, for example my headlight has a 12v/35/35 stamped on the headlight casing, there is however a 12/40/45VW bulb screwen in. Can I raise the wattage as long as it is 12v or is this a bad idea and should you only stick to what is suggested by the makers?

What do you guys think of halogen are they really brighter than incandescent, it would seem that heat may be a problem with these type of bulb.

Remember higher wattage = higher running temperature and more current drawn. Possible that the reflector could melt and/or the wiring could melt or catch fire.

Hi

In addition to the above there is a legal limit of 60W for headlights for any vaguely recent bike.
