Right, I'm in the Market for a PC. (Desktop)

I play some games but nothing online, Internet and usual bcf browsing.

I've filled up my laptop memory, 30GB so anything 150> would be cool.

Xp>
Need also a monitor.

But I have got a max of £300, could stretch to £400 if I save up.

Anyone recommend me one?

Wait for the next Aldi/Lidl offer.

Someone on here bought one recently. A lot of computer for not a lot of money. I'm tempted to get one myself even though there isn't much wrong with my current one.

Building your own is a great experience and you'll learn a lot.
Case
Hard drive
DVD/DVD +/- RW/Blu-ray Drive(Optional)
RAM
CPU
GPU
Monitor
Cables
Motherboard
Heat sink
Cooling fan
Monitor
Power cables https://www.aria.co.uk/

These are really good for the money.

Not for under £300 is isn't you get better deals on cheap PC's than building your own.

P.s., I don;t think I have ever had to buy cables for a new build they always come with the part (Mob/PSU/GPU etc.), you listed monitor twice and didn't mention a PSU

All this person does is smear people posts without trying to contribute himself what so ever.

Posted a few good links for you with cheap PC's, with the possibility of building one for your self.
Good luck!

No you won't, any monkey can build a PC.

I stopped self-building 10+ years ago becuase you could get a better deal buying from a large manufacturer. Coupled with then only having one component (effectivley) so only one warranty, it made life much, much easier.

Sorry are people not allowed to disagree with you?£300/£400 it doesn't matter IMO, how about this, you choose £400 worth of parts, and I'll find a ready built PC for cheaper with same/similar spec.

So where's the best place to start looking?

What should I be looking for?

I would say pc world but I never really like buying off big companies like them, always seem to be screwed over.

I rate dell fairly highly they have alot of stick from some but I have never had a problem as stink wheel said Aldi/Lidl do good ofters alot of PC for the money and 3 year warranty.

This aldi one is a good deal but abit out of your price range,

https://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys2_14867.htm

This isn;t a bad deal either but no monitor

https://www.meshcomputers.com/Default.aspx?PAGE=PRODUCTVIEWPAGE&USG=PRODUCT&ENT=PRODUCT&KEY=889988

This too

https://www.dabs.com/products/hp-pavilion---tower---1-x-athlon-ii-x2-215---ram-4-gb---640-gb-hdd---windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-7632.html

I think you are stretching it to get a PC you can play games on with a monitor for under £400.

You can get some good deals on Ebay too there are alot of companies that sell PCs on there I am unsure of the quality however.

It might be worth keeping an eye on Freecycle or similar to see if you can nab an old monitor.

2gb of ram £30
500 watt psu £30
amd am2+ or amd am3 socket motherboard £30
hard drive 500Gb £30
graphics card £50
dvd drive £5
case £20

You could do worse than a dell. Not the most awesome or necessarily the cheapest but they seem to be pretty serviceable machines. Of all the various cheap crap that has been bought over the years at my work, the one Dell machine we have has never had a problem. I think it's because they pick hardware that has well supported, stable drivers.

Go direct to the manufacturer for these. Tesco do them cheaper but when you look more closely, they have a smaller HDD.

www.cpc.farnell.com often have some good offers. Look in the ebooks in the "publications" section of their website (remember to add VAT).

When I say play games, I play sim city occasionally, settlers 3, age of empires 3 a few ww2 fitter pilot games and my brother plays some football manager game.

My laptop runs my games, a bit slow sometimes, but dose the trick.

What's to look for in a pc, could someone please explain, RAM etc.

Sorry for the noob questions.

£400 would get you a dual core, 3gig of ram, 250 HD and a widescreen (20" ish) LED monitor with Windows 7 home premium. That's all you need for what you have said.

Ah fair enough I assumed you went modernish games that would require a dedicated Graphics card as opposed to built in cards.

May as well look there (P.C world), I got mine from there (Compaq, been great), but don't fall for any extras they will try to sell you at the till.

Something like this would do I would have thought. (Just an example).

https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/compaq-sg3-110uk-cq1859s-18-5-widescreen-lcd-monitor-06852428-pdt.html

3 gig would be better though. Smile
