Right, I've decided to bite the bullet and for out for a proper digital camcorder.
I'm only looking at spending up to £300 though.
I've seen a few different makes and models.
Looking at the JVC GR-D20(EK?)
Sony DCR-TRV245
They're pretty much the same spec. Just wondering if anyone knows of either of these or anything better for the money.

Cheers

Look round at computer fairs. I picked up a Sony TRV-355E (which is a better spec) for £290. In the shops this sells for around £550-£600.

Have a look at www.letsgodigital.co.uk, cos when I was looking to buy, they consistently had some of the lowest prices online.

The GR-D20 is a very nice little camera - it's basically one model down from mine (the GR-D50), the main difference being that mine has AV-in and the 20 doesn't. Mmmmm helmet cam.

Hmm, it's tough to choose between the JVC and the Sony now.
The Sony has USB streaming But Only a 540,000 CCD.
The JVC doesn't, but has an 800,000 CCD and Seems that little bit better overall.
So it looks like the JVC is gonna win it Very Happy I can get it delivered for £281 all-in Very Happy

Bendy how much did all of your helmet cam kit cost as I would like to get something similar sometime in the future.

The helmet cam itself is about £100. But of course, you need a recorder of some sort as well, and in my case I chose to buy a DV cam with AV-in (another £350).

Anything with AV-in will do though, so you may be able to find a cheaper option - some kind of video walkman or something.

If you're having the merest thoughts of helmet cam action, then I'd recommend finding the extra - you'll be kicking yourself down the line if you don't.

Bide your time a couple of months and the prices may drop for christmas anyway...

Mine is of course available for hire, on 'bend it you buy me a new one' terms. Smile
