As per the title... I'm looking to convert a VOB file to MPEG but, since it's a one off, I don't fancy paying $30 for some software. All the trials seem to only convert a small percentage of the file which is useless. Can anyone recommend some free software?

Yeah, I already converted it to AVI. It's for a mate's electronic picture frame and apparently, it only plays MPEG!

Which variant of MPEG? MPEG4, H264, MPEG2, etc? You can rip to mp4 with Handbrake which is free. Thumbs Up

Try just changing the file extension, you'd be surprised how often things like that work. XVid and DivX are both valid MPEG codecs.

You could try using nero digital which gives you a third mpeg codec.

If you need it in MP4, use YAMB, I've used this successfully to transcode avis for playback on the xbox.

Rename the .VOB file to .mpeg and use windows movie maker to join the .mpeg files together if there is more than one file. Thumbs Up This is allegedly useful after ripping DVD's with DVD shrink.
