A question about taking mod 1+2 bet no-one knows the answer

I recently passed my A2 bike test and am hoping to get a restricted CBF500, thing is would i be able to take my A1 mod 1+2 test using the Restricted 500 ?, as 2 years is now seeming a long way off

Do you mean doing a test so you can ride any bike?

In the old days (before Mod 1 & 2) I believe you could take an 'Accelerated Access' test as long as you were 21 and had a suitably powered bike.

I'm guessing you mean A (or whatever it's called) so you can ride any cc bike. In short the only way I can see you 'legally' taking the test is to ride your restricted bike to the test centre then taking out the restriction there as the bike needs to be 49bhp (I think - the required is more than 33 at least) and attaching L-plates.

There may be a few questions from the examiner - maybe phone them and ask

Right, i'm confused by this thread but i'll contribute.

If you are over 21, you can take the DAS on a 500cc bike, with L plates on it.

Simple way in your position, is to take the restrictors out, and get someone to ride it for you, or take it in a van.
Then again, you could hire one.

Would there be an issue with insurance, with him being a restricted license holder, riding a full powered machine, even on a test?

Why not just use a riding school's full-powered bike (which will probably be a CBF500 or ER-5) and avoid all the hassle? Or indeed, get a riding school to come around and collect him on his now derestricted CBF, he quickly fits L-plates and puts on his learner tabbard, and rides with the instructor to the test centre?

if you read the direct gov website then yes he can ride his bike drestricted for his test providing he has reflective clothing, in radio contact and accompanied by a trainer. what i dont get however is why if you pass your full test say 2 weeks before your 21st you are only allowed 33bhp restricted license for two years unless you do accelerated access, hower if you do the test whilst 21 you have a full unrestricted license, seems like another excuse to print money by the gov to me....
