I'm not too bothered about top end speed, but would like to play with some extra acceleration, preferably without having to change the chain again...

Apparently the chain and sprockets were replaced immediately before I bought the Bandit in November 2009

So what sprocket / how many teeth are recommended ??

I tooth less front sprocket, will give better acceleration but a lower top speed Thumbs Up

Is it an electronic speedo? As it will not read correct if you do put front sprocket with one less tooth on it.

Standard is 15 a tooth sprocket.

Edit: By going one tooth less on the front, you will need to adjust the chain. Thumbs Up

Yes it's an electronic speedo. Does this mean that the actual speed will be higher or lower than the indicated speed??

If the actual speed is LOWER than the indicated, that would be OK, cos at least it would mean that I'm not breaking the speed limit... (there's two speed scameras at the end of our street, and I'm a bit paranoid about them)

Crap the fact it is electric has nothing to do with it.

The Speed Four is electric and that reads off the front wheel, my mates Hornet is analogue and I believe that runs off of the front sprocket.

It depends on where the speedo sensor is, if you see a cable that isn't a brake line going to the front wheel then it is probably read from the front wheel and down gearing will not matter, if not the easiest way to tell (working it out) is to get the rear wheel off of the ground start the bike and put it in gear get the rear spinning. If the speedo changes then your speedo will read off rear sprocket and it will under read if you downgear.

Edit

Most of the time you can just have the same effect from sitting in a lower gear. But going down 1 tooth on the front is cheap (£8 including postage for a 14 tooth front Bandit sprocket on Ebay) and the chain length should be OK.

All the best

Definately not reading from the front wheel (the old GPZ did that), and I'm 99% sure there's no sensors or extra cable going to the rear either.

I think there's a sensor cable running down to the front sprocket area, but since I havent had the sprocket cover off yet, I won't be able to confirm for sure until I get the socket set to it.

The advice being offered here is a big help though!! Thumbs Up

You can argue with me if you want.
But I have the same model bandit and the speedo reads from behind the sprocket cover.

It has an electronic speedo sensor, not an electronic speedo Thumbs Up

It might well done but the fact it has an electonic speedo does not necessarily mean it is read from the sprocket.

Edit:- Missunderstood your point, assumed you meant if any bike has a digital speedo it read from the sprocket.

Apologies Thumbs Up
