Hi

I have recently purchased a virago 535 as a project.

I have bought it off a good friend ( so I know its not nicked) but a week before I bought it he sent the V5 to DVLA as he was going to scrap it and sell off the bits on fleabay

So whats the best way of getting a hold of a new V5, ive tried the forum search but just feel like im going round in circles

Cheers
Geordie

If he has told the DVLA that the bike is scrapped then it will no longer have a V5, in fact it will no longer exist full stop.

no it means there is no longer a V5 on their system, the vehicle will be shown as scrapped and cannot be used on the road.

You'd probably be able to apply for an age related plate for it from the DVLA if it still has all the original bits.

You'll need some sort of proof of the date of manufacture. Usually one of the owners clubs can provide this for a small fee.

Failing that it's an MSVA test and a Q-plate.

thanks for the replies guys

I have the plate and at the mo bike is orginal (engine may need swapping in the future, the reason for my mate to scrap it)

Is it worth popping into my local DVLA tomorrow with MOT and old bits of V5 that were left with me ?

Cheers

You can try. But I'll garauntee they will be as unhelpful as possible.

Don't tell them who you are, they'll probably try to fine you or your mate for something. Ask your questions in general terms only and don't produce documents unless it looks like they are going to actually do something useful with them.
