I know we've all seen the new R1 by now (yawn etc) but I just found this rear pic, which look pretty good IMHO. The first time I've seen it from this angle anyway...

No but he's talking about underseat exhausts. Look how good the standard ducati ones look, now look at the new underseat cans on the R1. Look bloody awful if you ask me.

The only Japanese bike I can think of with a nice looking underseat system is the VFR800i

I liked the front of it but those cans are a bit nasty. Ducatis do have nicer cans as standard but they also cost several grand more as standard Smile

A lot of the aftermarket 'replacement' cans look really shit! I've seen a few CBR6RR's with replacements for their stock cans and personally I think the standard ones look and fit much better.. they sound crap though! Laughing Laughing

I reckon that the standard CBR6RR exhausts sounds pretty good, for a stock can. I agree about most of the aftermarket ones though, although I reckon that one or two of them are rather tasty. Smile

What does it go on then, other than flashy suspension, complex engine. I'm sure some of it does go toward making the cans look nice, imho Ducati's main selling point is their looks.

Errmmm, and you base this statement on..? How much did those ones cost?

Maybe Yam need you working for them, I bet they're gutted that you could have designed and built them better looking cans for same money Rolling Eyes

I would guess that they may not have put much into the r&d for the cans because they knew that 90% of the people who bought the bike would fit aftermarket ones?

But yes you are right, they could have put a bit more effort into the design of the cans.

Come on tho Alex, think about it, how much do you think it would cost *Yamaha* to produce those cans compared to standard shaped ones similar to the ones Ducati use? Come on what do you reckon the difference is? It definatley aint thousands which is my point!

Nah, most of the money is the R&D rather than the actual manufacture. Why else would they use stainless steel? Because it's cheap and robust. They also serve their intended purpose. Having said that, I remember seeing a cut-through of the Mille exhaust can, and that was impressive...

Ok fair point, I wasn't implying that the difference was ££££s, just that no doubt ducati could afford to have higher manufacturing cost per unit.

I would also suggest that Yamaha and Honda might be trying to keep away from ripping off earlier successful models of Ducati maybe? Personally I'm surprised Yamaha didn't go will a MVish Quad pipe layout, just to be different from Honda.

True quad pipes would have looked mental, from the back it looks like it could be a honda, still the rest of the bike looks mint, im sure i could live with the cans as they are Mr. Green Smile

Hmm looking like an oval shaped VFR system...

I agree duc's look great, CBR600rr great with aftermarket can n plate relocated / home made bracket.
