Work out your mileage, divided it by how many miles you get per gallon, then multiply it by how much you're paying per gallon. Then add on £35 for each night you'll be away (assuming you're not camping). Then work out how much you'll spend for lunch, multiply it by days away. How much you'll spend for dinner, multiply it by days away. Then add on a quarter of the total and you'll have what you need.
But really, it depends on how you want to do the trip. Some people like full slap up meals each night, some people are satisfied camping and living off pre-bought bread and cheese for breakfast, petrol station food for lunch and camping meals for dinner.

Ditto the above. Depends on exactly what you want to do as well.
If you have a tent, and a cooker that you can take with you, and you plan where you're going ahead of time, and you don't mind "roughing it" a bit, then £6 - £7 a night p/p is doable. (In Scotland you can wild camp it if you're brave, and its free)
If on the other hand you'd rather b&b it, obviously it will cost a good bit more, but do shop around.
200 miles a day, at 40mpg will cost you about £28 at the moment, depending where in the country you are. Heavy right hand, more money, also depends on what type of roads you're doing. I ride for the journey, not the destination, so subsequently i do more A-and-B roads than motorways, probably lowers my economy somewhat, but its more fun.
And finally food. As stated, if you can live off boil-in-the-bag meals, the food bill will be cheap. Also cooking is easy. If you like your pub/greasy spoon meals, and don't cook, obviously budget a LOT more per day.
Personally, i don't mind doing a bit of cooking, and i've got the pots and pans, etc, so my costs come in somewhere in the middle, and i end up with meals that i can taste!hehe! On the down side, you have to pack more tightly, and possibly do away with other luxuries to make space, so you cant have everything!
Hope this helps!

Food doesn't have to be pricey if you're not cooking. Eat (drink?) cold soup |

Aye. Never understand why people think because you are camping you will be cooking. yo can buy all manner of foodstuffs to eat that a) don't need cooking, or b) are cheap hot.
e.g bread, spread, croissants, cheese, meats, stuff from delli counters, crisps, chocolate, sardines, fruit, yoghurt, dried noodles (hot water is easy to come by) etc.. |

Ah, but never underestimate the morale boost of a hot meal!

August 2008 I did a mini tour of west coast of Scotland, leaving on the Friday afternoon and returning home Monday night.
I did 1053 miles, camped on proper sites for 3 nights, went to Skye on the ferry and I had just £100 to do it and feed myself.
The only motorway I used was to get to Glasgow before nightfall and to return home from Edinburgh.
