Evening,

When i bought the bike the owner had repaired a previous crack from dropping the bike, done the job nicely but can't remember what he used. It's started to leak again, probably didn't help dropping the bike today.. (Luckily no damage apart from this & a small scuff on the seat unit) Anywho, the oil is slowly leaking but only when you disturb the 'crack', i want to seal it up but wondering what the stuff is called to seal it?

Thanks.

Wallpaper Paste?
Chewing Gum?

What sort of question is that?

I saw som e'wonderful' fix all putty on the telly recently.
Fu*ked if ah know what it was called though. It was one of those irritating saturation ads on Freeview. Embarassed

JB Weld will fix it.
Needs to be spotless clean and rough up the surface.

Plastic Padding chemical metal ???
I've used this in the past on alloy casings with holes through them and its definitely both oil and petrol proof if mixed and applied correctly.

It's a very easy product to work both before and after it becomes fully hardened.
Costs £4.50 for a small tube , usually available from 'alfords.

JB weld is good.

If you're feeling adventurous you could try lumiweld aluminium solder. The trick is to not melt the bit you're tyring to solder. I'd practice on scrap first.

+1, or like stinkwheel says JB weld.

Chemical metal sets fast, but JBweld is tougher.

If you have a bigger 'ole this is also good

This is what I'd use. It's great stuff. I got a massive tube for £4 on eBay (auction though).

I used chemical metal (steel epoxy putty) on a steel sump a few years back, it did a goodish job... I had better results with the two part steel epoxy pastes (not a putty) that you mix before hand and slap on with a piece of card.

That is also in halfords for £5 and IME did a much better job. This was 2 years/25k ago and it is still holding up.

How much is a replacement cover and gasket off ebay. They aren't that much if it's a common bike.

Replacement covers i'd think would be fairly cheap but if i can get the job done for a couple of quid i'll do that, for the moment anyway.

I bought some chemical metal today as suggested & just sealed it up before it was dark. Seems to do the job & has set nicely, very easy to use too.

Tomorrow, can i sand it down & add a top layer?

Thumbs Up

Cheers.

Seems to be doing a really good job, great stuff. Can it be primed & sprayed too?
