I know they have probablys been asked and answered a million times before, but just for me this one time can I get a few answers. I know as a collective there must be a little bit of love there for me lol.

1) A cracked mirror. If I take it off will that be allowed to pass. With it on is it a fail or an advisory.

2) A chain that has seen better days. Again is it a fail or an advisory.

3) If the front mudguard has a crack in it is that a fail or advisory.

not 100% sure, but you dont have to have wing mirrors so just take it off. And with the chain how bad is it? could you just grease it up a little make it look acceptable, after all it is just a visual check

One thing i found was that if your panels are cracked but can be pressed together ie. not split apart if that makes sense and isnt sharp and therefore not a danger to pedestrians it will be an advisory. As above for the others. Good luck Thumbs Up

Yeah If the chain had a bit of a clean it would look 100% better. The bike has been off the road for about 9month and I haven't oiled it since I have been using it again. Might just give it a good clean down.

It's cracked as in come off lol. It does go back together and stays in place when screwed to the forks.

It's my first MOT. I have never owned anything long enough before to need one lol. Bit worried actually.

In that case just take the mudguard off as it actually isnt required for an MOT.

Cheers,
Jac

I thought a mudguard was a brace for the forks. I'm sure I read that some where.

Sorry yes just seen what bike it was thats in question, in that case just sand it down as much as possible so there are no sharp edges for pedestrians to rip there legs open on Laughing It doesnt matter if theres a portion missing from the front or back of the mudguard just as long as its not sharp.

I've done the front today actually. Heres some pics to explain.

https://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/carl_steveo/Frontofguard.jpg

Thats the front. I've now sanded that down to a rounded edge that isn't sharp. It isn't perfect but it's a huge improvement.

https://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/carl_steveo/normalside.jpg

Thats how the side should look.

https://i698.photobucket.com/albums/vv345/carl_steveo/Brokeside.jpg

This is how the side looks.

When you put it on the bike though it goes back together because of the clip thing. I just don't want to fail over something daft. If you look at the first picture you can see the portion missing on the floor in the background.

What id do is just sand down all the rough edges so there smooth, then with the broken bracket id use a large flat washer so it spreads the tension better through the mudguard therefore making it more stable. With it been a 125 the most he's likely to do is just wobble it a bit like they do with your exhausts just to make sure its stable. You should be fine mate.

Maybe if you get hold of a disc sander and sand it completely flat, surely they cant fail it then?

I've never had an MOT myself either, my current bike will need one by march 2011 but hopefully ill be onto a big bike by then Very Happy Thumbs Up
