I need to replace the front pads.
I have removed the calipers and can easily remove the inner pad.

BUT.

The outer pad is held in place by two rods which lock into the main caliper body.

When i slide the caliper bracket it does not quite go far enough in order to remove the pads which have two holes through which the rods pass..

Appreciate any help from someone who knows the gsx accross front caliper setup

Trob

Thanks for the link..

I do have this copy of the manual...but.. the pictures are not very clear.

There must be something very simple i am missing. ???????

It does not matter what i do, i am unable to move the sliding caliper sufficiently to be able to remove the outside brake shoes.

The outside brake pads have a hole on each extremity, which locks over the caliper pins.. unless i remove the pads i cannot split the whole thing , to get at the pistons.

I am wondering if one of the rod (guides) have to be unscrewed or something.

If i push the carrier right up as hard as i can, i get very close to being able to remove the outside pads. but not quite.

I would really appreciate an explanation... i feel like an idiot. ( i am a reasonably adept mechanic ??!!! i hope)

I have stared at the thing for quite a long time, and for the life of me i cannot see how to dismantle it.

I do not know the specific caliper, But most pins are either held in with a spring clip or need to be unscrewed. Thumbs Up

Is this the correct caliper?

No.. This capiper is very different.

It has 2 big long rods coming out of the main caliper body, which are part of the carrier. The outside pads have holes in them and they slide along then.

I have enclosed a diagram

The carrier and pads fit on the 2 rods and slide along them.

It says push the caliper holder and remove pads.

I can get the inner pad out, all ok...

But The outside (long pad)... i cannot remove it

When i move the carrier along the rod as far as i can, the pad does not quite get to the end of the rods.

It hits the area.. see red oval.........

I hope i am not missing something obvious !!!

I decided to give it a go tonite.

The job is complete.

I did not realize that to get the brake pad off the end of the rods that the caliper had to be compressed so hard. I had to actually pry the end of the brake pad near the hole a little so it would slip off the end of the rod, its a real tight fit,and then all was ok.

I tend not to force things when i am working on equipment, but, in this case it would not come off without it.

I will know next time if i ever have to do it again.

I do appreciate the help offered...wish i could do more than just a thankyou .

Regards
