Rough cost of carb clean fro gpz 1100

HI there just picked up a gpz 1100 been standing for over a year, it won't idle even after I changed oil plugs filters so I'm guess carbs could do with a clean, once yer on the open road rides great just cuts out when yea stop. How much would I pay for a carb clean as I've never done this myself and wouldn't be too confident to take it on

few hours labour. I would be surprised to see much change out of a hundred quid.

I dont know about the aircooled one but if its the watercooled GPz1100, the airbox is a total pig to fit,

Is it a fuel injection one? A lot of people retro fitted CV carbs on those due to problems with the original carbs if I remember right.

On most bikes, it's actualy not to difficult to whip the float bowls off, remove the pilot jets and give them a clean out. But if you're unsure, it might be best left to someone else.

I was thinking of the big red GPZ1100's that came out in the mid eighties

The 90's ones are more related to the ZX10/ZZR1100.

The ZZR has a downdraught head, but the GPz has sidedraught. The GPz is where the ZRX engine came from.

Sounds like your carbs could be out of synch too. This would be better done by a shop unless you want to pick up a vacuum gauge and the necessary adapters.

Cleaning them is very easy. I've used carb cleaner to good effect. I've also chucked a pair in the dish washer, again it worked very well.

£80 seems a lot of money for something that'll only take you a couple of hours to do one weekend.

Cleaning out carbs is an easy job, least I thought so until today when I spent pretty much all afternoon just trying to get the rusted, seized carbs off a Varadero 125, there's about 15 pipes and cables attached to them aswell, an absolute joke, wish I'd never started it. GPZ1100 should be a lot easier though, takes about 15mins to get them off on a Fireblade and another 30 to have the bowls off and checked. Synchronise them once they're back on, if it's running badly then they're probably out.
