I made some big behind-the-scenes database changes recently and I'd like to see if people have noticed any differences during the last week or so. Just a quick poll, nothing detailed needed I just want to compare user opinion to what various monitoring graphs are telling me.

Has it been faster? slower? can't tell the difference? Remember this is only during the last seven days.

I'd say it has been faster to a point, at which point it slowed down... I think. So day to day browsing faster, however when it gets busier it seems to slow more... Maybe that just a comparison to the new found speediness though. Hmm not too sure Laughing

I haven't had any page time out issues for a while though.

Less errors.

Maybe less stalling when opening several threads at once.

EDIT: Yes, less stalling. Opened 20 threads quickly and they all showed up instantly. I like your hax.

It's been quite a bit slower at times, but it seems to be improving.

I have found it has been better, but I have only been a member for a short amount of time.

When I first joined it kept freezing and when it worked it kept posting the same post multiple times.

The thing is with stuff like that is that people don't notice when it's running well, only when things are going wrong or slow.

Having said that, thinking back, I haven't noticed any slowness recently.

Can't say I've noticed, although I use the forum less nowadays.

It's light years ahead of how the board used to be, it's had it's slow moments the last week or two but generally it's nice and nippy Thumbs Up

Had no time outs for a while now and pages are not taking ages to load up, even searching for a particular thread was pretty fast - about a minute as opposed to about 3 or 4 mins in the past. Thumbs Up

well i've spent most of the week checking out BCF via my phone.. So cant really comment on how fast its been, seems to be less time outs etc though.

That said, i complain about the speed of BCF on my phone.. It's positively rapid compared to trying to stream porn.. Let me tell you, thats a bloody nightmare!

Many thanks,
Ol.

I noticed earlier that when I hit reply/edit it loaded much quicker than before. A few months ago it would take ages to edit a post sometimes.

Just after you changed the server a while back it was bad, possibly even worse than before the server change. Recently it's been running very well though, not had any of the usual blackouts especially late in the night where it just stops working completely for 20-30mins or so, hasn't happened for at least a week. So conclusion is yes, it's running better.

I haven't noticed it running slow or problemous, so I can only conclude that whatever you've done, is good Thumbs Up

People only notice when it's slow/doesn't work.. if ya don't notice then it can't be all bad.

I use 'egosearch' all the time, so massively slower for me.
Presume a capped search is the pay off for the rest working ok.

I use egosearch the most and it always works quickly and flawlessly for me, although to be fair, you have a much larger ego than me.

I mean, you have posted in many more threads than I have.

It is pretty awful from work during the day, but that could just be the NHS servers...

Before it would run ok but then sometimes you try to open a page and it would take minutes, I haven't had that for a while so it is a plus for me.

That's one of the downsides... the people with extreme postcounts will find that particular part of the search slower than before.

I'm waiting for a RAM upgrade for cornflakes before I can tweak the DB any further, as the InnoDB engine is quite memory hungry. It's going to go from 4Gb to 8Gb, so should be quite a bit of tweaking room once it's done.

Yep, though it's mostly commuting and just the odd little bit of playing now and again. Hoping that will change this year.
