A man arrested on suspicion of butchering an entire family in a Lebanese village ended up in the hands of a baying mob.
Was justice served? You decide:-

Clearly not, he wasn't proven guilty, how do they know they had the right man?

I bet the real murderer was pissing himself laughing. Probably even got a few stabs in the bloke himself.

He confessed.

Yeah but for all we know, a nights worth of flogging could have made that confession slip out.

It's all rather suspect isn't it, the police drive the guy back to the murder scene as the funeral is taking place with a huge crowd gathered to re-enact the murder? If he's confessed why would they need to see how it happened, this aint CSI Miami. I don't really blame the crowd so much, if the police are saying "this is the man, he is guilty of brutally murdering those kids" then I think the reaction would be similar be it in Lebanon, London or Eastbourne.....

He 'confessed'.

Fixed that for you.

I reckon I'd confess to anything after a night in the custody of Lebanese police.

Quote:
There was evidence that government officials tortured detainees and forced them to sign forged confessions. The Lebanese government continued to deny the use of torture, though authorities did acknowledge “violent abuse sometimes occurred during preliminary investigations … where suspects were interrogated without an attorney.” The report added that while security agencies and the Lebanese police force are subject to laws prohibiting bribery and extortion, enforcement of those laws were weak.

I wonder...

You'll remember the reports of a pediatrician being targeted because a certain demographic though he was a pedophile...

Well, this is even more clear cut, the man was actually a butcher!

Our civilisation might be flawed but its better than next to no civilisation. We might get accused of colonialism, but in this instance, I think our way probably is a bit better.
