Hi all,

I have a KMX 200 which had engine problems a year or so ago - Barrel has finally been rebored and i have piston and everything, However... Whilst it was being taken apart one of the parts of the Kips powervalve system was broken, Kawasaki are unable to get hold of it. Does anyone know if the kips system from the 125 and 200 engines are likely to be the same?

Failing that does anyone have a kmx 200 lying around that they want taking off their hands? (kickstart... G?)

Thanks,
David

I had to buy new KIPS powervalve drums for my 1st KMX 200. They were originally made of alloy, which is a not a great idea for the enviroment they have to work in. (Kawasaki have made a few big 2stroke engine cock ups over the year's on their watercooled stuff).

The replacement valve's are now steel, but i can't say if they are likely to be much different from the 125's valves. They should be very similar, although the shape might be a slightly different on the 200's valves, because the port timing is different to the 125cc cylinder. The important thing is to fit the later steel valve design, as breakages over time with the early alloy ones are common.

Hi Steve,

WHere did you get your valves from?

Any idea how much the bits were? It's just the long rod part that pokes up through the front (exhaust side) rhs of the engine i need and i'm looking at (if in stock) 60 quid for an original kawasaki item Sad.

Thanks,
David

Yeah the Governor rod should be exactly the same, It might be called a rack, as it engages with the pinion gears on the valves themselves. You should also be able to get away with using a decent secondhand operating rod/rack, as it's the KIPS valves themselves that are the normal part of the system that breaks.

At least it's not a stupid PV design like the hand grenade RGV engine with it's famous PV problems! Laughing

If you need new Valves or any other parts, then i would possibly try Cradley Kawasaki as they are one of the u.k's biggest Kawasaki parts stockists, and i got all my bits from them. TBH though fixing the PV system wasn't cheap, it was 8years ago when i did mine, and 2 new valves, all the seals, O-rings, and head and exhaust gaskets came to over £70 then!
