I have been dropping the misses off at work lately and the road she works on (Queenstown Road, Battersea) gets pretty busy in the one direction in the mornings.

Now, when she is on the back I ride like a saint but if she is not on it and if the risk is only my own I may bend the rules.

So after dropping her of I ride up to a fairly busy junction and the cars are always backed way up. This road also is not TFL maintained so bikes cant go in the bus lane, sometimes there is not enough room to squeeze on the right side of the central island.

Central island;

On more than one occasion I may have (after checking it was safe to do so) nipped around the wrong side. On Saturday I received two notifications in the post for the 11/05/10 and the 12/05/10. I hope there are not more to come today. I am now at least £120 poorer. Could be worse I could have got points I suppose.

I see loads of bikes do the same every morning so they must be making a killing. Kindly last week someone wrote on the bollard "Bikers Beware Camera!!"

Moral to the story, look out for cameras. (or ride llegally

Quite lucky there, they could have nabbed you for TS50/TS70x2 which would be six points.

In future, you'll know not to risk it when you could wait a few seconds! Wink.

I'm guessing this is the camera that monitors it, or something else:

Were they police or local authority?

(If it were the latter I'd have appealed it all the way to the tribunal, just on the off chance!)

I assume local authority - in most London boroughs the police are not allowed to enforce this and similar offences, because the councils like to make money from them.

£60 a pop? Ouch - Old Bill would've only charged £30 and there aren't any points attached to the offence anyway!

Not quite!

TS50: Failing to comply with traffic sign (excluding 'stop' signs, traffic lights or double white lines).

TS70: Undefined failure to comply with a traffic direction sign.

If the Police caught you crossing a solid white line and going the wrong side of a pedestrian island if it is marked you must go on a certain side I'm fairly sure that'd fall under one of the two above offences which carries 3 points.

Do feel free to correct me if I am wrong!

Have you checked out the tickets? Many council tickets are unenforceable.

Scan them up scrubbed of personal details and we can have a look.
