A Blackburn Justice of the Peace, Austin Malloy, has been forced to stand down as chairman of the bench following remarks he made whilst dealing with 2 teenagers that had vandalized and desecrated items at a local Cathedral. He told the 2 yoofs, ''This court is disgusted by the mindless destruction that you have caused. Normal people would consider you absolute scum. If it was in our power we would have you both stand in front of the congregation at 10.00 am on Sunday and explain your words and actions to them to see if they understand it, because we can't.'' The clerk of the court, Ms Christine Dean, stood up in open court and reprimanded the Chairman of the bench telling him, ''It is totally inappropriate and unjust for you to use the term absolute scum in the youth court.'' She then went on to advise the mother of one of the miscreants on how to make an official complaint about the matter.
Is it any wonder that today's young feel that they are beyond reproach?

That's sickening. Do we really need to come up with yet another synonym for Scum? That's pathetic. If, *if*, he overstepped his bounds and let his emotion overcome his judgement he should have simply had a slap on the wrist and reminded to separate emotion from the job. I love it that the dad of the scum, is so appalled at his sons behaviour and appalled that the magistrate lost his position for voicing his opinion.

It is inappropriate for scum to be referred to as such.
Tell someone they are a thief, and they will continue thieving.
Tell someone they are a good boy really, and although they will be punished for bad behaviour, you know they will be good in future, and they might reform.

However a bit of moral disapproval can be a good thing, and its sadly lacking in today's society.

After reading the first post of this thread, i am appalled at the way Austin Malloy was treated for telling the truth.
i would like to think of myself as reasonably normal and i think the two teenagers in question are Scum!

the powers that be wonder why ordinary folk have lost faith in them and even distrust them.... well that article/post is the perfect answer
