Loss of power.. why?

Hi guys, I have a Honda XR125 and recently it's been losing alot of power.

It's not the fastest bike by any means, but could hit 50/55 normally without a problems, but not much more.

Recently though I'm hitting just over 40 in top gear, and getting not much power out of any of 'em.

It just doesn't feel like it did, things like being high in 3rd gear at 20mph or something and just a loss of power overall.


I'm a bike noob so have no idea what it could be or what to look for.

Changed the oil and checked tyre pressure..choke is always off, did a few simple things, but anything else I'm not quite sure of.


Anyone?

Change the spark plug/airfilter.

Check the exhaust for leaks.

Check the brakes are not binding and check the chain tension.
