So, on Saturday when my local roads became full of caravans, horse boxes and accidents, I and a mate decided to go off-piste and explore a small part of South Wales. Over the old bridge, off at Chepstow and take the B road to Usk. My God, what a pleasant little chicken that was! Then, up to Monmouth on the A40 and find the other little B road that goes back to Chepstow. Was racetrack smooth, no traffic, no cameras, beautiful countryside etc... Really enjoyed it....

So, can anyone recommend any other 'required riding' (see what I did there?) within quick, easy reach of either of the bridges?

Please? Thankyoumuch. Smile

there are some really fun runs around Tintern Abbey way, and all round the Wye Valley is good. If you can get over a bit more, Brecon is a classic run too.

Wow, one reply?! These roads are fanfrikkintastic, and all I get is one reply!! I have been on the Wye Valley road before, but as it's an A road, there was too much traffic to really enjoy it properly.

+1 for tintern abbey road.

If you want some absolutely fantastic roads in Wales there's the heads of the Valleys which most of the riders in South Wales always go on.

EDIT: This is the proper link:

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Abergavenny&daddr=neath&hl=en&geocode=FdHIFgMdlOfR_yk7EpA65CduSDH6xiAq67XxfQ%3BFTxJFAMdlvXF_ykJPuCxQkNuSDFBfnmOJ4SK4g&mra=ls&sll=51.703666,-3.285886&sspn=0.564249,1.775665&ie=UTF8&ll=51.743612,-3.370743&spn=0.281879,0.887833&z=11

And if your willing to venture another hour and a half further into Wales there is the most perfect road you will ever ride in probably the whole of Wales. You can see for miles ahead of you and the corners are just magic. Top Gear tend to use the road a lot when testing their cars:

EDIT: Put the wrong link in:

https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Brynamman&daddr=Mountain+Rd%2FA4069+to:Llangadog,+United+Kingdom&geocode=FcCYFgMdq_7E_yn7dKCVCVduSDHydKKyneyzBg%3BFfK0FgMdix_F_w%3BFXOEGAMdl7_E_ylZfHHwik1uSDHo_nEg7szbVQ&hl=en&mra=ls&via=1&sll=51.930718,-3.877487&sspn=0.085526,0.308647&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=11

This is a video starting at the hairpin...the guy has missed off most of the road:

Enjoy!!

The route posted from Llandrindod to Newtown is a very good road, and from Newtown heading east is a great setof bends too Razz

This is the best (and scariest) road in Wales shown in the above video:

https://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=Brynamman&daddr=Mountain+Rd%2FA4069+to:Llangadog,+United+Kingdom&geocode=FcCYFgMdq_7E_yn7dKCVCVduSDHydKKyneyzBg%3BFfK0FgMdix_F_w%3BFXOEGAMdl7_E_ylZfHHwik1uSDHo_nEg7szbVQ&hl=en&mra=ls&via=1&sll=51.930718,-3.877487&sspn=0.085526,0.308647&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=11

Another great road a short distance from that one is here:

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=llandovery&daddr=builth+wells&hl=en&geocode=FbpdGQMdMR7G_ykfRMwTU01uSDHTg_mISyKoaw%3BFVO-GwMd0AjM_yn50129FcRvSDEHYPzG5NneQQ&mra=ls&sll=53.800651,-4.064941&sspn=10.497926,39.506836&ie=UTF8&ll=52.069305,-3.703482&spn=0,0.002411&t=h&z=19&layer=c&cbll=52.069442,-3.703436&panoid=PH-1KP_Am6L6Y3GQhunGCA&cbp=12,111.23,,0,3.7

Google streetview works on it too Mr. Green

That's pretty cool looking corner, is it near Sugar Loaf Mountain?? The one with the flat top?

Check this corner out, from Brynamman road I was talking about.

It's just occurred to me the perfect day out on the bike.

I'm going to do it on Sunday!!! Just hope for some sun.

I give you:
