Hi,
This is my first post.

Basically i've got a 2002 malaguti f15

Its been sat still for about 4 years in my uncles garage, he got it out the other day to see if it starts. It started fine and ticks over but when you rev it it just cuts out.

I think its something wrong with the carb because if you force petrol in it will rev, the carb is clean and no kinks in tubes but theres a box on top of the carb and it looks eletrical, the battery is flat so if i got a new battery will this work and what is it?

Many thanks
Symon

Is the original fuel still in there?

First thing to do is replace that and flush it through. Old fuel goes stale after a few months and settles out, leaves a layer of varnish like stuff behind after extended periods.

After that then try a charged battery of the correct voltage.

On the basis that it ticks over ok then I'd think one of the carb jets is blocked, take it off and give it a proper cleaning - there are loads of guides on here if you do a search Thumbs Up .

Sorry I only half read your first post when I first replied; on the basis that it starts ok and ticks over ok then I'd put some effort into checking the carb jets for blockage.

Basically you have several jets, these come into play and supply fuel at different parts of the rev range - if it is idling ok then it suggests your main jet could be clear but the other jets are not. As you open the throttle more air enters but no more fuel enters, the engine runs too lean and it chokes and dies.

It's possible that rust or other shite has got in and blocked it all up, for the time it takes its worth stripping and cleaning it properly Thumbs Up .

A nicely charged battery will stop you burning out your reg/rec anyway so it might still be worth charging/replacing (and charging) yours.

Good luck Thumbs Up .

That will more than likely be the auto choke. Nothing to do with injection.

Try running it with the fuel lid open. If it runs fine your tank breather is blocked.

Have you tried fiddling with the choke? If you can manually turn it on it might help it tick over till it's warm and should then run fine. If it's auto it may or may not be working properly.

As for the jets being blocked the best way to find out is to see if it will stay running on full throttle. If it does then the slow running jet is blocked.

Undoing the float bowl off the bottom of the carb (Turn the fuel off first!) and looking up into it should reveal a brass coloured round thing. Undo this and check its not blocked.
