Hi everyone,
New here.
Im fairly new to biking, when i was 16 I started thinking about getting mobile so did my CBT and found a really nice Mobylette AV89 which I bought and got back on the road. I know many of you will tell me its not a proper bike! and I kidna agree but its great fun. Not sure how optimistic the speedo is, its definately not quick but for a 40/50 year old 50 its really not bad. reasonable top speed, just takes its time getting there!
It still has some stuff I need to do, Id like to make a new wiring loom ideally, the original one has some breaks in it I think and Id also really like to put together a loom for 6v indicators (it has none, and I really dont liek hand signals. I already sence the hate coming from many car drivers towards someone on a moped, and not having a repeating turn signal makes me a bit more paranoid!) and then it should be about sorted. (if anyone does have parts for some 6v indicators, itd be great if you could get in touch!)

I have been using it for some commuting but its not ideal for that. I love using it to get round the local villages and to get to the bus stop etc. (theres no bus in my village and its 7 miles to the nearest regular bus) so I have been using it for that but its nearly 30 miles to get in to town and that does start to get tiresome on the little mobylette unfortunately, and it takes quite a while!
But Im really enjoying biking. The pure fun of it itself has put me off driving. I feel far more aware on the bike than I can imagine i would in a car and its far more connected as well. You ride a bike whereas you kinda tell a car what to do and it does it, you know?

so next Id quite like to get a 125 or maybe a geared 50 (rs50, derbi gpr etc?) as a commuter. I was originally planning on driving at 17 but i have now decided against that. Its going to cost an insane amount. for the insurance alone I could probably go and buy a brand new sports bike, insure it and buy petrol for the year. also im going to mvoe to London once college is done. Im a musician so Londons the only place to be really. everythings happenin there and to be honest, there would be little point in me having a car in London, and carrying a sax on a bike is dead easy.
So i think ill start lookin at something cheap for the daily slog into town and stuff soon.

I got on a 125 when I was 17 purely because it was cheap. And Never looked back since! 4 & 1/2 years later and still going strong. Smile

Looked much into getting your full test done?

And we all gotta start on something small and slow. No idea on your bike/model but my 125 was a Chinese piece of rap with less BHP than my dog so it can't be that bad! Laughing

Yeah, Im thinking about doing the full test when by CBT runs out but really would like to get a 125 and get some experience on the road with indicators rather than hand signals and gears just to be properly prepared. I think im good with all the mod 1 stuff its just riding a bigger bike that i would like to get used to (unless theyll let me do my test on the mobylette LOL)

and I havent got a 125 yet but im hapyp going slow, so long as its enough t oget around on and I feel like I need a touch more poke than the Mobylette to be honest. also the mobylette is old and I wouldnt want to be riding 60 miles every day on it you know? Its just a bit of fun for the nicer weather not really a daily bike for much more than maybe 10 miles, but I do love riding it! always puts a smile on my face, no matter how long it takes to reach the crest of each hill or how many angry faces i can see in the cages lined up behind me Smile

Hello and welcome to BCF.

Classy lil scoot there. Looking forward to pics. Wouldn't mind having one to add to the stable myself. Adding signals could be as simple as going to the scrappers and nabbing parts from a 6v bike. There is also the potential of a 12v swap, but on this particular scoot, I wouldn't want to tackle it.

As to your 125 needs, the options are almost endless. When it comes time for your search, take into account what you're after. IE: Comfort / speed . Reliability / cool factor, etc. It'll help you narrow down your search greatly. For the basic bullet proof bike, it seems the CG is hard to beat. For more sporty bikes, there are still some reliable choices.

Great to see more younger riders taking it from the ground up and appreciating the ride while learning their paces. Good show Amreet!

Hi Amreet and welcome!

If you want no frills reliable 4 stroke 125 pootling, then the Honda CG or Yamaha YBR are pretty good choices to start with. To put it into perspective, I cover 60 miles daily on my YBR and it's been quite reliable apart from the usual wear and tear things that start to happen after a while (spark plugs/air filters/tyres/brake pads/chain/sprockets/new fork oil/loosened and lost carb screws/seized rear brake, play in the steering head...) - all of which I could sort myself apart from changing the tyres. Not bad for 27'000 miles over 2 years in all weather!

These 125s are touted as being really accessible when it comes to servicing and maintaining them, and fun, as I've been finding out. My missus is extremely jealous of the bike... Twisted Evil It's everything I want in a commuting vehicle - easy/cheap to work on by myself, cheap to run/tax/insure and reliable.

yeah the mobylette is a great fun little thing, and fun to work on as well. You might be surprised but with the new surge of ped popularity in the states you can actually buy a complete 12v electrical and cdi ignition kit for the mobylette !! It comes with everything you need and runsabout sixty quid but then i have to rewire everything else and apparently the cdis are temperemental and prone to frying which would be very bad at that price. Unfortunately i am yet to find a proper old fashioned scrappy in my area with any bikes which is really wierd. There must be one in cambs somewhere?
But i would recommend a mobylette as a little project for any of you!!
I think ill probably end up with a cb or cg but my impractical side cant help lusting over ooder bikes like the cd series and others but i have to keep saying no!

hi all im new to the forums Very Happy

well been riding a few years done my cbt 3 times had a number of different bikes,but where i was living they got nicked a lot i think it was because of an ex bf.

Rory:my beloved cg125 was my very first bike,got stolen 6 months after having it,likkle ...... why cant people just leave stuff alone..

then i had a ns125 as well as a tzr125 thought at least ill still have 1 in the morning if 1 got nicked didnt matter about locks and stuff being on them all they still got nicked

then i brought this very shiny chinese rubbish regal rapture and didnt quite like the riding position as i only have little arms,well after some debate about selling it,my bf convinced me to keep it so we put lower down risers and bars on it well blow me down a week later that was nicked. Mad

well that was 2 weeks ago still waiting on the insurance to pay out but in the mean time my bf got me a cb125 as a project as i wanted to learn mechanics and do my own bike up........... that was a week ago,we thought it was the old twin shock but on stripping it when we got home we found out the frame had been butchered to fit them and it was really a cb125 tdc mono shock...


so back to the drawing board well that was a week ago,i now have 5 cb125 projects to do up......and maybe even make a little money back out of them so watch this space............ Wink
