Hi to all.

The bike had a bmc or similar air filter fitted and revved horribly up to 5-6 k , also the engine stals on sudden acceleration. I assumed that, the air filter was the problem as the rest of the bike is stock.I did the following: original air filter, cleaned carbs and checked all the jets, adjustments, fuel pump, new sparkplugs. The only thing that helps is to completely close one of the 2 airbox inlet holes with a rag. This helps a lot, and the bike revs almost perfect.I ran out of ideas, I can't imagine what could cause the bike to run this lean.

Thank you for reading.

Wow how odd, I fixed the exact same problem on my friends new zx6r today. The solution wont help you though as it turned out he didnt have any air filter at all!

Have you checked to make sure the HT leads are on the correct spark plugs and that gapping is correct?

Have you reset the carbs back to the manufacturers settings including the floats? Are the two little tubes that come from the nozzles located in the air intakes hooked up as these are to do with atmospheric equalisation (or something similarly named)
