Under proposals unveiled by the Tory/Lib-Dem coalition, men accused of rape will be granted the same anonymity currently afforded to their accusers. They haven't revealed any of the details yet but presumably the name of the accused will not be revealed unless a conviction is secured.
This seems like a pretty good idea to me. What do you think?

Agreed.
Some of the speakers they've had frothing on the TV and radio against this have really gone over the top in trying to promote the idea that before a man is found guilty, its in the public interest for their identity to be disclosed. They say it might give other victims the chance to come forward, but that wouldn't work in practise surely.
There's also an issue with consent where young males can find themselves on the sex offenders register for sleeping with a girlfriend who might only be a few days younger than them but under 16.
Also in the news though (and this may be more contentious) is the story about the two ten year old boys convicted of attempted rape in an adult court.
I'm not sure I agree with the forum used in that instance. At ten, you can expect a child to know the difference between right and wrong, but not as applied to sexual morality.
Not sure about the new government, but Labour would be bringing in laws banning playing Doctors & Nurses on the back of this...

I think it's a good idea. A bit of equality.
The other side is to name both parties. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...

Should be the same in ANY case that neither party can be named till the trial is over.
They should also include that there can be no reporting of a ongoing case till it has finished. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Well, that lasted all of 5 fuckin' minutes.
In its coalition deal, the government backed keeping the identity of defendants in rape cases in England and Wales secret until after conviction.
But Mr Cameron told MPs he favoured a "limited extension" to the law to cover the period between arrest and charges.
Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman said she was still "disappointed" by the policy.
Anyone surprised at Harperson's 'disappointment'?
