Under proposals unveiled by the Tory/Lib-Dem coalition, men accused of rape will be granted the same anonymity currently afforded to their accusers. They haven't revealed any of the details yet but presumably the name of the accused will not be revealed unless a conviction is secured.
This seems like a pretty good idea to me. What do you think?

Agreed.

Some of the speakers they've had frothing on the TV and radio against this have really gone over the top in trying to promote the idea that before a man is found guilty, its in the public interest for their identity to be disclosed. They say it might give other victims the chance to come forward, but that wouldn't work in practise surely.

There's also an issue with consent where young males can find themselves on the sex offenders register for sleeping with a girlfriend who might only be a few days younger than them but under 16.

Also in the news though (and this may be more contentious) is the story about the two ten year old boys convicted of attempted rape in an adult court.

I'm not sure I agree with the forum used in that instance. At ten, you can expect a child to know the difference between right and wrong, but not as applied to sexual morality.

Not sure about the new government, but Labour would be bringing in laws banning playing Doctors & Nurses on the back of this...

Thumbs Up

Its a screwed up issue- there name should be protected Until/if convicted its to easy for some crazy bitch to cause some one absolute hell and get away with it.

A woman drove a man to suicide by crying rape and forced a second innocent man to consider taking his life after falsely accusing him of a similar sex attack.

Despite being exposed in court as a serial liar, legal restrictions mean the 21-year-old woman can never be identified.

A jury took only 45 minutes to clear medical student Olumide Fadayomi, 27, of rape.

But several jurors at Sheffield Crown Court broke down in tears when the judge revealed the 'victim' had a history of crying rape

I think it's a good idea. A bit of equality.

The other side is to name both parties.

Should be the same in ANY case that neither party can be named till the trial is over.
They should also include that there can be no reporting of a ongoing case till it has finished.

I think in cases when women "cry rape" they should be royally fucked over and get the same sentence as the man they accused of rape would have gotten. Here's a comment I read on Digg earlier:

Quote:
Now I'm not a hard drinker and I ride a motorcycle, so I watch my limits. There was this really cute girl and we talked quite a bit and she'd buy my beers... and when I started to see double and feel strange I tried to leave but couldn't find my key to my bike. She offered to give me a ride to her house to sleep it off.

Now I'm a rider. I do NOT leave my bike. I don't care what happens, I just don't do that. It was my only ride for years and I'm not about to just leave it, I'd rather push it and sleep against it rather than abandon it because I was stupid. She got pissed and tore off. As I literally crawled around to the back of the bar behind it and called to a friend to come pick me up, I remember but at that point I really don't remember much after that call, leaning up against a dumpster and ashamed that I got so drunk so quickly because I always watch my intake. I had only 2 pints. And I ate. This is normal for me. I felt like I downed a bottle of something and didn't throw up. I tried to throw up and that didn't help.

That cute girl? Come to find out that the bitch slipped me a roofie in my drink. When picking up my bike the next day I talked to the bar owner to see if I left my keys in there. Apparently this woman had an MO, she'd slip someone something then take them home, and accuse them of rape unless they pay up. This fuck-slut-cunt-whore-bitch-shit got 3 guys doing that.

What a world we live in. The only thing that saved me was that I love my bike more than some hot chick who offered to take me home. Take that as you will.

Saying that, in the US of A if you get caught weeing in public you get put on the sex offenders register for life Shocked Messed up place.

The Judge in that case, Patrick Robertshaw, is a personal friend of mine. He is normally a very mild mannered man so he must have been really pissed off with the CPS to have publicly rebuked them like that.

How so? Exposing yourself in public? Surely that'd only apply if you do it in full view of people like on a city street, otherwise it'd apply to peeing behind a tree. If so then technically the same could happen here as exposing yourself would get you on the sex offenders register for a while I think.

True enough.

I know of a trainee teacher who got booted out for ending up on a register after pissing in public during a night out.

Well, that lasted all of 5 fuckin' minutes. Mad

In its coalition deal, the government backed keeping the identity of defendants in rape cases in England and Wales secret until after conviction.
But Mr Cameron told MPs he favoured a "limited extension" to the law to cover the period between arrest and charges.
Acting Labour leader Harriet Harman said she was still "disappointed" by the policy.

Anyone surprised at Harperson's 'disappointment'? Rolling Eyes
