Think this is going to be in the wrong section, but I'm still learning my way round here so forgive me please!

I'm planning on getting my first bike next month but a few things are still causing me to think... and it hurts lmao

How exactly do you wash bikes? Is it still as simple as wip the hose out with some wash n wax or is there more to it with a bike?

What's the best form of security? When I'm at home it'll be in the garage but for when I'm out?

Satnavs, can you use anyone on a bike or do I have to buy a certain one?

I'll probably think of loads more soon!

Any sat nav can be used if you've wired up a 12v socket and have a suitable holder. Bike specific sat navs are better imo but much more expensive.

I never lock my bike up when away from home but then I do have an alarm. *Shrugs*

Edit: Not quite true. I sometimes lock it if I'm leaving all day depending on where I am etc.

Thanks for the quick answers!

I'm bit of a clean freak so having a clean bike is very important to me lol!

The satnav part, maybe I'll just buy a proper motorbike holder and use my current one then, I've found a 12v socket that connects direct to the battery already! I need satnav as I get lost VERY easily!

Washing: bucket, hot soapy water and sponge, then rinse.
Security: big fat chain with something like Ingersol padlock. Carry it around in a small tank bag, or bungeed to your seat with a cargo net.
Don't bother with sat-nav, the fun part of riding a bike is exploring unchartered territory, get yourself down roads you've never been down before. Use a map. Use sat-nav/iPhone tom tom for important journeys only (if you must).

If you are a clean freak, make sure you get a faired bike, not a naked one. Cleaning is easy although I rarely do it.

Security, lots to choose from. When your out, disc brake lock, fvck off big chain through the back wheel, immobilisers etc.

Satnavs, any sat nav. You can get waterproof ones if you want to spend loads. Also you will need a 12v lighter socket unless it is only for short journeys. Also some will broadcast the voice instructions over blue tooth so if you got a headset in your helmet, that might help.

Ride out with me would be fine...I rarely get lost...probably because I've been down lots of the minor roads across the country...I have a good sense of direction bizarrely!!

Haha mixed views on SatNavs then, although I'd still feel happier with it, doesn't weigh much either and the battery is great! Although I'd defo want an ear piece for it... will have to have a look

Cleaning, sound like the same routine for washing a car then Smile
