Set off nice and early for a ride, been a while since I took the WR out and have been keen too ride her for a while ... (I also wanted to use up the last bit of tyre - before getting some new ones - I have been meaning to do that for a while now ...).

I did my little route I do, with a couple of variations ... on the route, there is a lane that is closed for part of the year (see pics below) ... but May is outside that restriction, so I rode it for the first time ever! Cool The lane was nothing special (quite scenic mind) but it was just nice to have a new bit to explore!

The WR is a capable bike (just a bit gutless low-down) - can't wait to get new tyres on it as it was struggling for grip quite a bit today (its a bit slimy where we have had a recent dry spell then downpour yesterday), I think with a new set of tyres it will be even more confidence inspiring to ride!! Cool

Anyhoo, enough waffle ... some pics ...

How big is the 'step' on water lane? I can never gauge how big it is from the photos...

E.g. is it knee height, or is it hip height?

I think it has just been packed with mud .... it was very 'straightforward' getting up there today! Sad

I actually thought 'ampshire sucked and was convinced there was nothing here - but it is surprising what is there if you look hard enough ...

I started off just looking for byways on a map .. and there wasn't many ... but a lot of the unclassified roads are essentially lanes too ... and there are a fair few of them about!! Cool

Thanks for that, it's given me a better idea of where to start looking,
Should be able to put something together as I'm not to far from there.

I can remember riding Water Lane back in the mid-80s with the Southern TRF group and I do not remember that step being there from then. But then I rode it again when doing a Long Distance Trial when riding my KTM and if the step was there it does not stick in my mind as being a big obstacle.

What I would say though,is that the pictures do show a good reason to not travel alone.Greenlaning is full of unseen dangers and being trapped underneath a bike with a broken leg would be no fun.
