Residential area,
no excessive speed,
clear skies.
straight-on/right at a small roundabout
turned-in (not under braking)
back end went very quickly
low-sided,
bike slid down road

Bent the brake lever
Scuffed the hand-guard
ground the bar-end
Scratched one of the silencers
scuffed one of my DIY Fork bobbins (good investment!)

Looking at the scene, the road is slightly off-camber and the tarmac is polished very smooth at that point.

I was impressed by my gear:
Leather Jacket virtually un-marked at fore-arm (due to lack of surface roughness?)
Hood Jeans (poly-cotton)outer slightly holed over knee pad.
German Army boots slightly scuff along edge of sole.

Maybe a bit of oil or diesel involved - on road or on your tyre from further up the road.

not so Smooth are you Thumbs Up Laughing

Glad you are alright and nothing got badly damaged!!
Could have been totally different.

Could have been anything though, loose stone, bit of oil on the smooth tarmac...anything

Still, good to hear you are fine Karma

Possibly, but it was dry and there were no signs of any spillage anywhere.

Lack of grip from the tarmac seems the most likely, although I've never had it snap out so quickly. In the past I've stayed on the gas and ridden out any small slides.

I certainly didn't snap the throttle shut this time ...because it went so quickly when I steered it in to the right.

I'll check my tyre later.

there's something to be said for wearing protective gear and riding a naked bike with crash bobbins.

I'm going over it in my mind.

The feeling was like riding onto ice. There was no feeling of getting to 'the limit of traction'. It just went.

I might go for another look at the scene and take some photos.

I went 'low' (straight to the floor) rather than 'high' (over the bike).

I went back. It appears that I hit a solitary piece of gravel whilst leaning around the bend that then skidded across the tarmac ( I found the stone and the scrape marks) under the rear tyre. The back tyre didn't catch before the bike dropped.

I suspect that I'd have ridden it out on a more sweeping, higher-speed bend.

Be careful out there.

It sounds to me as if it was your front tyre that lost traction rather than the rear.

If the rear tyre slid then I don't think you would've felt that instant loss of control and inability to save it.

Either way, I hope you're ok and didn't take too much of a knock to your confidence. Thumbs Up

It definitely felt like the back, a witness sad that "the back went" and the bike spun around on its side clock-wise about the front end, suggesting that the back slid out (The crash bung might have slowed the slide at the front though, although it slid rather than dug in)

Cheers. I'm not hurt and felt fine riding at lunchtime.

Sorry to hear.

I had almost exactly the same thing this morning. Apart from i hit a line of diesel. My back wheel lost traction on it, then re gained it and luckily kept me on the bike.

I lost the front on my gixxer and the guy following described in detail how the rear let go and the back came round. Onlookers often aren't great witnesses.
