I've been nosing around on other forums for something else and came across a topic where someone had moved form a Yamaha R125 to an R1 loaded with ohlins, brembo, termi etc

What would you say to that?

I like the colour scheme though, but funny he thinks someone spent 26k on that bike.

Well, I hope he gets used to it and rides safe!

My friend had a cbr125, then crashed twice (Both kinda not his fault) and moved onto a Yamaha R125.

He just passed his test (First time aswell) 2 weeks ago and part exchanged and is paying finance (I beleive) on the rest for his New GSX 600, which he has had for maybe 1 week.

They adviced him a 750 would be too strong for him, which he wanted. So he got the 600.

It dropped somehow in front of his house and he has been riding it without a gear pedal lol.

He hit 98 with me on the back and over 100 with his friend on the back.

He seems OK with it, but he did use the mode C (400cc) in traffic. I'd say it all depends on the rider.

He has had 7 car crashed before though (I was even in one!). So I do tell him to calm it down because this isn't a 125.

I can only iamgine a R1 would scare the shit out of someone who came form a R125, which it much slower than my RS125.

Sounds like some spoilt brant but saying that how old is he? to ride a full powerd r1 ..... makes him atleast 21 i reckone he's probally in his 30's? then its imaginable

and after a quick peak on his PB account ...
https://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk211/HuDDy25k/Me.jpg

id say ist imaginable... if he bought a brand new r125 im sure he can afford a r1 ... altho looking at his pics he has alot of r125 pictures of different ones and ONE of 'his' r1 so could just be a 'mates' r1 considering there is 2 sets of gloved on the bikes and his gloves are on the r125 front his picture https://s281.photobucket.com/albums/kk211/HuDDy25k/Mods/?action=view¤t=DSC00001.jpg

so i call bullshite

you missed the point the picture was apparently taken when he got it before he lent it to his mate so the r125 would be intact just the fact the picture is taken

a) not on his drive
b) his gloves are on his bike
c) there is ONE picture of the r1 and loads of the r125 ...

oh and even more bullshite ok

the 'last pictures of hsi bike from its last few days yeah ?'

look at the fairing on the r125 pictured
https://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk211/HuDDy25k/DSC00025_3_2.jpg

now look at the picture from its "Photos of its last few days "

https://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk211/HuDDy25k/IMG_0159.jpg

hmmz yeah so it magically re applied all its decals and the screen changed back to clear amazing what a bike can do in the garrage at night

Good luck to him but it is a waste, there is no point having brembo and ohlins goodies if you have only been on a shitty 125, chances are he would be quicker on an older cheaper bike.

I totally agree with you tbh, but for some people with plenty of money and limited time, then learning the art of riding a sportsbike confidently and to a high standard of bike control and being familiar with and able to utilise fully the capability's of the bike may not be that important.

If all he wants to do is go out on sunny days with his mates, or on a bike trip abroad, or even just commute to work in the flashy parts of London, then an expensive trick and head turning bike might be considered ideal.

I've never had a 1000cc bike, and i don't mind admitting that i couldn't even get close to getting every last second out of a ZX250R on a track day, but if i wanted and could afford a nice 1000cc bike that interested me, then why not buy it?

To be fair, that R1 does look like it's had some pretty big numbers spent on it, I can see ohlins r&ts so an ohlins rear is almost inevitable, brembo calipers, termi system etc. 26 grand is pretty unrealistic given that it's still got road running gear on though Smile

Thing is though, not everyone who does something like that is a twat. When I had 50/125's I was a total nobber, my old man was against me moving up for a long while, but I knew I could ride something more powerful sensibly, and be able to gain experience, and that's exactly what I did. Went on to a ZXR400 for 18 months, got some experience on that, and then moved onto a K4 GSX-R1000. Admittedly not quite the same leap as from a 125, but still at least 2 and a half times more power than a ZXR400, and I've managed not to embed myself into a car/tree/fence/house (delete as appropriate).

There are situations where you know certain people are going to get hurt or hurt others, but I dont think everyone who does such a thing should be dismissed as an idiot.

People keep pointing out the Ohlins...

Marchesini wheels are horrendously expensive. More expensive than the Brembo's or Ohlins me thinks. Forged aluminium are £1500 upwards. And those could be forged magnesium which is even more again; Price isn't listed and as people say, if you have to ask, then you can't afford it.
