Ok so my birthday is coming up, 2 years ago for my brother's birthday my dad got him a rally driving experience day, he'll be coming down nearer my birthday and has asked me to think of things I'd want to do. I don't really have many ideas. I'm near Southampton so something vaguely local would be best (i.e. not hundreds of miles away). I'm not sure how much he's expecting to spend, but he suggested go-karting so I assume somewhere in between the cost of three people (me, my dad and my brother) go karting, and one person going on a rally experience day.

Finally, my birthday is July 2, and I think my dad will be coming down late June, so if it's anything that needs to be booked more in advance than that, it's out.

So I put it to you BCF! What should I do?

My 18th birthday ended with me naked and gaffer-taped to the signpost of the local pub.
It's an idea.......

Of course there will be much drinking! (Possibly not shooting?) But
this is more a 'family' thing. My dad has split my present into a 'thing' and a 'do' so I've got to think of something cool to do!

Come to Molly's BBQ for a start, as its the same weekend.

If you Dad would happily pay for something like a rally experience for your brother, why not ask for something similar... or you could go Zorbing, although it is over quicker than rally driving.

I wish I could but my mum is planning a barbecue of my own for that weekend! Was thinking about something similar but I don't have a driving license and I don't really fancy zorbing, considered a trackday but thought I wouldn't get the most out of it on an old, rusty, restricted CB500. Other than that there aren't many of these experience days that I really like the sound of

I'm sure you can get a trackday on a supplied bike??

What about a hot air balloon ride? Or a helicopter flight? Or your own flight in a four seater airplane? Or a Powerboat experience? Or White Water rafting? Or surfing and wakeboarding? Or scuba diving? Or Skydiving? Or wing walking?

You must have a whole list of things to do before you die, surely??? Pick one of those. Thumbs Up

Trackday on your bike should be fine. Unlike cars, even fairly 'low' spec bikes tend to be fine on trackdays - remember people race not that modified CB500s! If you can actually *use* the power, you'll be fine on a slower track - gaz did a trackday on Snetterton (fast track) on his stock MZ250!

I recently did a day learning to snow board at Milton Keynes snowzone thingy place - an interesting experience and good fun.

Also been starting to learn to hang glide - however for a one off, getting a decent tandem flight could be worth it instead - bigger 'wow' factor.
Also consider flying in a real plane or 'proper' glider.
Similarly, sky diving would be worth considering.
I've also done indoor sky-diving recently, but not an amazing experience (did it as practice before first day of AFF).

Scuba diving also an interesting and 'different' experience that shouldn't be too expensive.

For other bike stuff, how about an off road, or trials experience day.

Some interesting ideas G! Particularly like the idea of hang gliding/plane experience, quite interested in an off road experience too. I'll put in some more research in on trackdays then! Very helpful, cheers

Edit- Sorry Clanger only just noticed your post! Hot air balloon/helicopter are looking like good ideas too! Think at one point my dad mentioned he knows someone who could take us up in a helicopter for the price of fuel!

As I'm not 18 yet I don't really have a list of things to do before I die, the things I would like to do are more things like touring Europe or other things too big to do as a birthday present. I'll have to start a list now though Very Happy

My 18th birthday ended with me in bed still fucked from my crash in november.

How fun.

But the party i had 2 days later (imagine fitting 60 people into a 3 bedroomed house) ended up with much drunken-ness and also ended up with the current girlfriend.

Have a house party with plenty alcohol, drugs if you're into that kind of thing, plenty plenty girls, loud music and a motorbike to rag around your back garden and you'll havea screamer of a night.

Failing that, you could go karting, then go to the pub for piss up, or a quiet pint.

It's up to you, young padawan.

also, dont you need a one / two piece gimp suit?

It depends on the circuit, some you can. Don't think they looked at our licences at Rockingham.

I got a set of one piece teknic leathers before I recently did Rockingham for £54 delivered; second hand on ebay - in this case I took a bit of chance not trying them on, but they turned out to be an excellent fit and were in very good condition. I had 'out grown' my previous set.
I would always recommend trying them on first (I already had an ill-fitting set that I could get on, as well as another that probably did fit but needed a bit of gaffa tape to hold the leg together on top of the ones I'd out grown, which it was possible to squeeze into, but with very restricted movement.)

My house is off-limits in terms of parties. My mum is very protective over it since the divorce and it's 'her space', it would drive her insane to find out I'd had a party, besides I couldn't deal with the responsibility of it, looking after everything, I'd rather get trashed at someone else's house haha.

Like I said this is sort of a 'family' thing, my dad wants to pay for me to do something I wouldn't normally do.

Luckily I already have a 2-piece gimp suit as in my uneducated rush to get on a bike I bought it new just before I did my test. In hindsight it would have been 100% more practical to buy looser fitting leathers/draggin jeans/some better textiles. But there you go, it means I can do trackdays Thumbs Up

The 33bhp thing I need to check, I'll look at some of the trackdays available and call the organisers to ask about 33bhp licences, would be gutting to get there and not be able to ride!

You can't do 33hp at the MSV group (Brands, Snetterton, Cadwell, Oulton) but most others are ok I think - do call ahead first however.

If you want protection, tight fitting is the way to go and leathers are going to better - loose fitting is great for the armour moving around and you getting hurt more as it doesn't do it's job.

Bugger, really fancied Cadwell and found one in June for £50!

In terms of leathers, agreed tight fitting ones are best for protection, but for riding to college/shops/mates houses, it's really impractical, sometimes uncomfortable, and hot! Something less queer looking, along with some Draggin Jeans or similar for even more casual tootles would get my money now.

While plenty of people have done places like cadwell fine as their first, I'd generally recommend a simpler track for your first day.

This way you can really focus on riding the bike, without worries like the line to take through hall bends or how much to brake while leant over in the goose neck.

Good point, which would you suggest are the better tracks for a noob? I don't really know that much about tracks so I don't know which are the slower/less technical ones. Bearing in mind I don't want to have to travel *too* far, but my dad lives in South Wales so it's possible I could do one there or near there as well.
