XT350 Electrical problems (again)

My XT won't start as it's not getting a spark It ran fine over winter then one morning wouldn't fire. A couple of days later after taking apart all the connectors and spraying WD40 everywhere it ran again for the whole day but then wouldn't start again the next day. I got it going again a few days later but again the following day it wouldn't start and it hasn't started since.

When I've had it running it will run fine for the whole day, it's never died whilst running, it just won't start initially in the morning.

I've been through everything with a multimeter and the only thing that is not within spec is the resistance of the charge (source) coil which shows no continuity at all. This would seem the obvious fault then except for the fact that when I had an electrical problem last year and went through the bike with the meter I found the same lack of conitnuity but it turned out not to be the cause of the bike not starting It turned out to be a broken wire going to the reg/rec which I fixed and the bike then started without me touching the source coil I never checked it again as the bike was running perfectly so I just assumed I had tested it incorrectly or something.

Would the bike run without the source coil? I'm not sure what it does really, I've no idea about automotive electrics
