I'm not entirely sure to be honest, I think you have to play lots of games though.

Apparently it is very, very boring. Laughing

As in driving a car into a wall 100 times to see if anything weird happens.

It will be pretty boring, and get tedious a lot.

You'll find that you will have to repeat the same process (as MonkeyKnuckle pointed out, driving a car into a wall 100 times to see if anything happens) to playing the same level 100's of times to see if anything glitches, or anything stops working on the level for any reason (also to see what could/couldn't happen if things are altered each time). I used to do some closed beta tests on online games, which got pretty repetative. Fun, but repetative.

Just tell him to have lots of coffee, patience and expect to possibly play a game or two that he hates.

He worked in a game shop and played all the games. Some I though were boring but it didn't bother him.
He needed to know them all so he could answer customers questions.
But playing over and over will be ok because he was let go from old job and would take any job. Thumbs Up

TY.

It's one of the worst paid and lowest jobs in the industry.

Place it can go is, If he learns code, he could start helping main coders sort glitches and problems he finds, then slowly move his way up.

Extremely Repetitive, Mind Numbing, and will probably put him off games for life.

Sadly you don't. You get to play the same game over and over again doing things slightly differently every time, logging all your steps then an accurate description of the bug. Would bore me into quitting within a day.

Game design advisor is the role you want. Friend of a friend was the best in the UK at c&c, so when they bought out the new one out he had to do a load of the play testing to help tune the balance of the game. He got paid a few grand for a few days work. Obviously this isn't something you can do all the time though Sad

This is unfortunately true. When PS2, Dreamcast, and Xbox were fighting it out there seemed to be a lot of game testing jobs in my area. I knew a group of folk a few years younger than me all about 18-19, all hardcore gamers, used to come round my house each week and we would batter each other snot less on whatever good multi-player had just come out. They all jumped into these jobs when they appeared (advertised at a local University) and within a month they began disappearing from our game night. Within 2 months they had all stopped playing games in their own time.

So yeah, if he sticks at it, expect him to go off games quickly.

There's reasonable job prospects in buisness software testing - so if it's a long term career consideration, that's a way to go.
As above, there's loads of kids that want to be 'paid to play games', so at the bottom level it's not a great job in most aspects.

Maybe not such a bad thing, because then you can spend your free time doing something a little more worthwhile.

If he goes to work for SEGA in London then exect to be treated like shit, have a job that is totally unsecure, do repetative testing on the crap games, and not get paid very much. Mate of mine was on £300.00 a week. He lasted about 6months of just getting stoned and going to work until he had enough.
