INJURED TT star Conor Cummins was expected to undergo an operation on his badly smashed left arm on Thursday, in the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
The operation had been scheduled for Tuesday, but deferred.

His arm is fractured and broken in several places between the elbow and shoulder. He is likely to have a brace on that for a while after the operation, which will also check for nerve damage to the limb.

Last Thursday he was in theatre for 12 hours for a double operation on his back and left knee.

It was only after he was transferred to Liverpool a couple of weeks ago that fractures in the lumber region (L1, L2, L3 and L4) were diagnosed. The spine was also found to be twisted.

In addition there are fractures to his pelvis and shoulder, while he also suffered a bruised lung in the high-speed crash at the Verandah on the second lap of the restarted Dainese Senior TT three weeks ago.

The knee injury will undoubtedly take the longest to mend, but suggestions that Conor's knee cap has been removed are inaccurate.
The knee cap was fractured in the incident and the knee dislocated.

This was put back into place by a German doctor on the emergency helicopter at the scene of the crash as it was feared that the dislocation would cut the blood flow to his foot.

There is severe damage to the ligaments and tendons in his leg and the Liverpool Royal specialises in transferring these from other parts of the patient's body (self-donoring) instead of using artificial means.
In short, the knee and leg have to be reconstructed.

Conor remembers very little of the accident, indeed about the only thing he does recall is flying through the air at what must have been around 140mph.

The accident remains a mystery, it is thought that a flag marshal was the only witness to it.

One suggestion was the strong wind, combined with a slight dimple on that section of road may have caused the front end of the 1000cc Kawasaki to go light. Machine failure has been ruled out.

Whilst now acknowledging that he will be out of racing for the remainder of the season, the 24-year-old from Ramsey is determined to get back to racing. The McAdoo team has promised to support him again when he returns to race fitness.

Conor is likely to remain in Liverpool Royal for another two to three weeks, but his mother Carole says he has not complained once about the accident or his injuries.

'I'd like to say a big thankyou to everyone who has sent messages of support to Conor and the rest of the family,' she said.

'We've had cards, emails from all over the world. It's nice to know that people are thinking about him.'

Meanwhile, Conor is thinking of just one thing, being fit enough to get back on his bike.

When asked by his grandmother last week if the accident had put him off racing and if he was now going to return his job in a local bank, he swiftly replied: 'Not flipping likely. I'd throw myself off the Verandah again before I'd do that.

Top bloke is Conrod, I really do wish him all the best for a quick and full recovery. I hope to see him in Ireland or IOM next year.

All the lads (and ladies) that race on road circuits have my upmost respect, but to go through something as bad as this and vow to race again shows loads of character and real determination.
