Best place to get rear shocks?

It would appear that no matter what direction preload and damping settings are turned it makes no difference from being solid? Failed MOT due to this, wemoto have them for £280 and have to be ordered in, seems a hell of a lot of money albeit Hagon.

Any other makes of shock or best place to look?

Before you run away and buy a new shock, are you 100% sure that it isn't just the linkage that is seized? If I were you I'd try and strip the linkages first and see if they are in good moveable condition. If they are, then you do need a new shock. If they aren't then a strip, clean up, regrease, maybe some replacement bushes is in order.

I find it very hard to believe that your shock itself has seized, its much much more likely to be linkages.

Hi

I agree with Marjay. Shocks rarely seize (although I have had one seize though on the Diversion I had, think the piston rings in the damper came out and jammed the piston). Seized linkages are rather more likely.

I've been having a similar problem with the 350, one of the shocks are leaking so i feel i best change them both fairly soon. Wemoto came up with normal black ones for £60 Chrome ones for £68 and Hagon ones for £138 Who was it who said Hagons were the cheap ones? Although the others could just be mega cheap ones

Hi

Hagon stuff is well made and rebuildable. Worth spending the money if you are keeping the bike for a while. There might well be people making cheaper shocks though

Also have a look to see if any other shock fit in easily. Did see one web site that mentioned fitting GSX600 teapot rear shocks to a GS500, and it wouldn't surprise me if 600 Bandit ones are a close fit as well.

r1 r6 thunderace
etc etc
with the gs500 there were heaps of shocks that you could get in there,
gsx sv650, rgv250 bandit 4, ect ect,
im sure there is something interchangeable out there

Well tried to look at the shock linkages and managed to bend a dog bone and break the bearing that the lower one sits through!

Never, ever let me touch anything!

Popped out for a paddock stand as the bike was sitting on the floor and then balanced against the garage wall. No paddock stands so car jacks will have to do.

Got a second hand linkage and dog bones coming from eBay so will have to wait a few days to fix this problem before looking at sorting the shock out.

I sold the rear shock from my Z, in immaculate condition (ie Never saw rain, washed after every ride, with 5K on it).

It went for £30.

Some fecker got a bargain.

Dont know what experiences other people have had with Hagon, but personally i don't think i'd buy one for my bike now.

They aren't MUCH cheaper than other alternatives, and when my brother enquired about getting the spring re-powdered on his R100, the after-sales service he got was very poor.

It was very much a case of:

"You cant rebuild that, we have to do it".
"We wont tell you how to do it, even if you want to, we have to do it".
"Oh, you've got the spring out already, well post it to us, with an extra £25 to ship it back to you, and we'll see how much it'll cost for us to paint it for you".
"No, we cant give an approximate cost over the phone".
"Oh, by the way, we can do the spring in any colour, as long as its red".

Had it powdercoated locally eventually in the same colour as the frame, etc, and IMHO the finish is probably better than it was to start with anyway.

Its a real shame, because they've recently released a "lightweight" alloy shock for the BMW K-series that is £179.50 instead of the normal £295, and it has a black spring like the original, but to be honest, i don't see the point in giving them my trade if they don't treat their customers well, no matter how cheap they are.

Old shock out and new one in and the its like sitting on a bouncy castle. How stiff or rigid must the last one really have been to get used to that as a norm?

All 3 of the adjustments really need to be fine tuned as god knows how its previously been set up but it works and thats the main thing.

If a weird thing is going to happen, it'll happen to me!
