Valve Covers

Hi
Well i did my tappets again on my ybr and must have tightned the valve covers to much the last time, and as they seem to be made out of cheese the rounded quite easily and i had to use vise grips, so does any one have or know where i can get two replacements cheap without being raped by yamaha :p.

Can you measure the diamater of them? (the threads)
I found a couple in the shed a few day's ago.I bought them for my xr250 but they turned out to be the wrong ones anyway Laughing

Those things are impossible to get a socket over without taking the engine off. I use a 24mm crow foot spanner on the end of a breaker bar for them to get enough leverage, works every time and they do seem to get quite tight especially as they're not torqued up that much, which you can also do properly with a torque wrench if you have crow's foot attachments...

I rounded my some on a yamaha by using a spanner rather than a socket due to being unable to reach them. I just filed new flats onto them and used a smaller socket in future Laughing

Well the covers are around £15 from yamaha so it will be one this month and one the next, however im not sure if they really are 24 mm as my 15/16 socket fits better with no movement, of to ebay for a spanner in that size.
