Trying to find info about good cornering technique and somone on a forum posted this website:

Warning: Graphic Bike Accidents (unless your Ste)
https://home1.gte.net/res0ak9f/bike.htm

I didn't know whether to add it, but I opened it up while eating a corned beef roll and now I feel a little ill. Thought I'd share.. the videos aren't that bad, but the pics as you scroll down get progressively worse.

seen it before, but with a different domain name (seems that they are selling them)

the point is in most cases, the riders where :

unskilled
idiots
wearing no gear

People over in the US just cant seem to corner, and you can watch them with absolutely no gear what so ever.

Yeah I noticed that too. Road rash seems to dominate the majority of the pics.

There's a vid on there of two Goldwings (could be something else) overtaking on a corner and going straight on into a ditch... no cornering ability whatsoever.

I'm intrigued to see what you need to do to pass your bike test in America.

Ah right, must have missed him.

Yeah I don't like seeing this kind of stuff as it's usually all the acciedent footage from the dawn of biking being collated into one site which makes bikes look a lot more dangerous than they really are.

It's that dreaded fascination that keeps you looking through it.

That's the only compulsory bit. There is advanced training available, but most don't bother.

Next to bugger all. I did my test while I was living in California. You can go into a dealership and ride away on any bike you can afford without any sort of bike license. The only restrictions are that you cannot go on the highway or take a passenger.

Your test consists of a brief theory, and a car park based skills test. Riding a figure of eight, stead oval etc. Asked a couple of questions, such as which is the rear break, which is the gear change and it's job done!!!!

In Spain we have an easy closed circuit test which involves an emergency stop, zig zags, a thin slow section between two bars and some turns. Pretty easy.
After you pass that test you have to do an open circuit one in which you are followed by a car with the examiner in it, and you have a mobile phone with an earpiece and they tell you where they want you to go for about 20 minutes. If you ride perfectly legal for that time, you pass Smile
What's the UK procedure?

Full of Squids, dont feel sorry for the majority of bikers on that website at all, if they did a proper test and actually wore the proper gear they would be fine. Idiots!

To be fair if the motorbike test in america was too hard, bike sales would be affected.

I looked through that website just after my CBT and nearly gave up on the spot.

Then I thought about it and decided I need a site that does the same with car crashes.... and there'd be a lot more of them too.

What it did tell me is there's a point in severity of accident where it doesn't matter if you are wearing all the gear. But looks like it'd probably be quick....

Yeah, plus these are all the pictures the guy could find on bike accidents and are probably from around the world, which if you think about, it is not that many.

I certainly still won't wear All The Gear, All The Time.

Nasty collection of images sure, but if there were no risks what'd be the point?

Eh? you what? I don't ride a bike because of the tantalizing risk of ending up mangled....I ride because it's fun.

If you had a bike that had an ejector seat and would get you to safety in any accident then you'd lose all interest in riding? Odd one.

Actually, chances are I'd ride it more to increase my chances of experiencing the thrill of an ejector seat. Laughing.

I think what I mean to say which was misconstrued was I ride a bike because it is fun yes, but it is fun because it has risks.

I have much more fun on the KLX300 knowing I can fall off at any second cornering on knobblies than I do on the SV, in the same way I'd find skydiving exponentially more fun that motorcycling.

Higher risk = more fun.

1. Is skydiving riskier than motorcycling? Not sure it is.

2. So you would find playing Russian Roulette with 5 bullets and one empty chamber the best fun ever then? You go first...

You can't be too hard on these folk if they never had the benefits of knowledge.

In the UK there was a massive excercise by DoT Police and others to help reduce accident statistics for bikers on our roads.
It may sem like a hassle to have to jump through all the fiery hoops to get your ticket but the proof is in the pudding.
Bikes have become much more powerful and 'easier' to come by, roads have more traffic but there has been a marked decrease in the number of serious bike RTAs/deaths.

The most important thing in this life is education.

I am not meaning DSA have got it anywhere near right in their shambolic Part A and B bike test. ALL OF THAT IS WRONG.

Training is always good for anything.

It's still shocking to see people riding motorbikes peds and skooturz on our roads with f all PPE or insufficient gear.
I have 'lost my balance' on a few motorbikes and landed on the ground (and been injured) these were all un-planned incidents.
If you choose to not protect yourself nor take good advice then hell mend you is maybe a more apt view to idiots on bikes. Smile
