I know it's been asked before, but prices change.
I need a cheap broadband so I can download large files for uni (and for other essentials such as bike movies and porn Wink )
Any ideas?

Pipex here, no problems to report and it costs something like £25 I think.

Came with a free usb modem and a couple of filters so I couldn't complain as I didn't have a modem.

DSL has the same speed up and down, while ADSL doesn't.

Eg... ADSL is commonly 512 downstream and 256 upstream.

DSL is synchronous as oppose to Asynchronous, DSL is an american specification.

When they decided to bring DSL to the UK they realised that nobody could afford it, so they settled for an older, far less complex specfication, 'adsl', that was sufficient for most home users needs.

As bendy pointed out DSL upload is the same as download, most home users download a hell of a lot more than they upload, so the lower upload speed was not a problem.

Have a look at https://www.adslguide.org/ they have a list of all the service providers, all of their plans, costs and they rate them all. There are forums too for most of the providers, so you can see what their customers think. A provider I've been keeping an eye on is Datacomms Europe https://www.adslguide.org/isps/ispinfo.asp?isp=dcomms not heard any bad things written about them in the forums either.
