How Long Does It Take To Steal a Bike?

This has surprised me, staff member at work had his bike stolen yesterday a Honda Deauville, I asked my staff to check the cctv as the area is covered and we saw two guys take exactly 3mins to pop out the ignition barrel, pop another in and take the bike. Now he had just bought the bike that day, could this have been modified by the seller who then returned and nicked the bike back?

They could of done it in less time with a screwdriver and a pair of mole grips. Surprised that they changed the barrel, I don't see the point.

It might be possible that the seller had set it up but if the barrel was loose then it would of probably come out with the key.

Pity he didn't have time to get a lock and chain.

Is a test ride after repair/service include a quick Jolly down to Mr. Minute to have a spare key cut for a tenner????

Seconds, grab bike throw it in the back of a van and its gone, when me XT was stolen I was having a gab with one of the staff in the shop for a minute or two came out and thought where the smeg is me XT?

Someone I used to work with, had a brand new hot hatch astra with super bling wheels.

They only fit on this particular bling astra, and a particular mercedes, and they have a special lock nut which is a vauxhall thing.

It happened not long after they got the car. I had the suspicion that the main stealer he bought it from, or someone working for them, did the job.

Cant remember who it was but i remember a guy telling me went into gregs and heard a noise outside, he went out to find his big getting pushed into the back of a transit, when he chased the droped the bike on its side and done the off.

They rode off on this, no van just popped ignition, looked like put another in started it up and away it went. We have a lot of bikes parked there, full cctv coverage but they dont appear to care about being identified these days do they.

Four people with a van and two scaffold poles for going through the wheels would be able to steal a bike very quickly if it isn't chained down.

i was thinking how do you know the popped the ignition

they may of just had a spare key and away they went

im also paranoid about the key cutting so i give the garage a normal key and keep the master one in the house

its more difficult to programm a key without the master one

What's this master key you talk of?

With Honda's HISS, you can program any new key to the bike using any currently programmed key.

Some bikes you can only reprogram using a master key, i got 3 keys with my KTM 2 standard keys and a master.

On the footage you could see one guy using what could be a ratchet driver, was pushing in and out, then you saw him taking something small and putting in his pocket, his mate then passed him something he appeared to push in, his mate jumped on and started the bike.

My mate put his 800cc cruiser into a dealers for a service in London (cant remember what bike) It had a fancy alarm/immobiliser fitted.

2 days later it went missing from outside his flat. The alarm was on and a locked cover over it. In the morning it wasn't there. I'm bloody certain they cloned the alarm fob so it could be turned off

Loll yer, most others have chains or disc locks on, plus theres quite a few scooters, inovas etc commuter bikes. I know its sad but theres an old MZ which is in great nick, love the smell and sound from it. Owner is very attached to it as he has two dirty big chains on it.

If the previous owner was going to do it, I'd presume they could just get a copy of the key made and not worry with any of that - walk up with helmet on, use key, ride off.
Doubt anyone could prove it was them that passed the key on, rather than them just mashing something in or whatever.
