Some people NEVER learn...
However, a 50 is not really a great training tool for using gears.
I still remember my first go at gears on a 350 zook many many moons ago.
From at stad still, engage 1st, balence clutch, ease from a stand-still, accelerate, gain momentum.... de-clutch, listen to engine reving wildly, wonder whats going on, remember, roll off throttle, fumble for a gear.... find neutral.... rev engine, wonder why your not moving..... put foot down..... look bemused and wonder why every-one is laughing at you!
Try again!
Not so bad on a 350, with some power and weight in it, you can actually get up to more than walking pace before having to change gear, and it stands a MUCH better chance of continuing to roll why you pranny about trying to select the next ratio.....
On a 50, by the time you realised you've cocked it up, you've fallen over!
So 'yeah' he MAY want to learn gears at some point, & if he can do it on a moped, great, but of not, wait until he can do it on a 125, that is often a tad easier, IF he struggles, and IF he maintains his enthusiasm for PTW after he's 16 and mates start getting cars. |
