How secure is it to 'Borrow' WIFI?

Hi,
I've just moved into a new house and before i've been able to get my own connection i've been borrowing one from the few unsecured networks we have round here.

Today my GF has checked her bank to find that £70 has gone missing from her account. She paid for the TV licence online using one of the unsecured networks (Silly i know).

Is it possible to see someones card details if conencting through the internet on one of these unsecure networks? Even if the server has SSL?

Unsecured networks are only meant to be used for putting horse porn on your neighbours computers.

Ive been "borrowing" from secure (wep) networks forever.

google spoonwep and you will find out how.

I have bitten the bullet and ordered my own inet connection cos then i have control over when stuff gets downloaded so that i can go on xbl with out getting lag.

You'd have to be trying quite hard to get someone's card details through a router, I'm not sure it is even possible?

Its definetly not the TV licence; Her bank said it was a compnay called Yes Loans.

Plus they'd actually have to run it...

Anything of importance (cerdit cards, gmail, etc) uses SSL so regardless of how insecure the wireless is and who's listening, your details will be fine.

Has your girlfriend phoned up for a quote for a loan recently? Yes loans are a dodgy broker that charge you a £70 admin fee to search for a loan you won't get.

Hey,

No she has definetly hasn't contacted Yes loans.

We have a sneaky suspicion that its the b*stards now living in our old flat.

When i moved in here i rang anglian water to be told i owed them backdated charges on my old property. I told them that i moved out of my old place over 8 months ago!!!
Same story for gas and electricty; excpet we found out they had been changed into my GF's name!

Not a happy chappy.
