Going through a bit of a silly stage, and just noticed that the 929 blades seem to go very cheap, as in 2.2k ish.

Why? Is there something wrong with them?

I've been considering another k1/2 gsxr600, but they're about the same dollar.

They're under-powered compared to the competition in 2001 and were put to shame by the later released 954. I've had a 929 before and although I fookin loved the bike (rossi paint job, blueprinted engine, suspension, brakes, the lot upgraded). However, the engine is not a patch on the K1 GSXR-1000 which, if you look on eBay enough, can be picked up for £2.2k.

Because they are highly underrated. People WILL by choice opt for a Gixxer thou OR an R1. The 929 was well off the pace back in the day but is now showing itself as a good value bargain.

Zoidberg's owned both so he will give a fair comaprison... BUT he rarely owns his bikes for more than 6 months at a time Wink.

My bike's done 16k since i purchased it 16 months ago, ridden mostly for long distance jaunts, winter commutes and spring/summer blasts. It does all very capably and has a large enough underseat storage to hide madeline mccann in!

I treat it like a 600 on steriods rather than a thou (if you've seen any of my vids, you can hear me working the box like a 600). You can fire it out of corner without much fear of losing the rear. I've had the rear spin on b-roads a few times but that was me getting a bit greedy with the throttle. Power is predictable and won't catch you out.

Suspension is very good for a bike that's 10 years old. Mine's due to get refreshed and tuned this summer for £500... the showa units are good enough for a stock bike; just needs setting up.

My say is that they are very underrated and you have former owners wishing that they had kept theirs. Get one whilst you can!

They don't hold their value as well as 954's because the 954's mark the bike honda should have built in the first place. The minor improvements they made on the bike collectively made it a more rounded package, making the 929 look like it's fat sister (albeit one that will show you a thing or two in bed).

Harley (can't remember his username on here) has ridden all subsequent revisions of the Blade and says that the 929 has the most character (if you can say that a honda has character!)

Harsh but true... Evil or Very Mad I did like the look of yours but once I get my gsxr's suspension sorted, you'll have to get a go of her, just to compare them both.

If you're still living around the corner from southern cross, i wouldn't mind! I thought you sold the Gixxer to get the versys?

Sorry garth for the thread hijack.

You can ask Steph (forgot her username here) since she's also got a 929 as well and because she's raced and ridden more bikes than me, she'd probably be able to make a more informed judgement as to how the bike's performance compares.

Basically writes the bike off unless you swindle a warranty claim.

That sounds piss poor. The last service of my bike shown some quite poor finishings and I spent a fair bit of money getting a lot of stuff cleaned up.

My RR3 never had a problem, but the RR7 has been pretty poor in terms of finish.

This appears to just be the 1000cc but I do wonder if the 600cc is effected also, might take a look at mine tomorrow.

Right, all I can say is this.

Recalls were made to certain 929's regarding their fork bottoms, again a materials selection issues which had something to do with corrosion! I think we're noticing a pattern here!

By now, a lot of them would have been recalled!

Also, honda for some unknown reason refuse to use needle race headbearings so they often go every 20k miles. Replace with needle race and you should be fine. To be fair, people say that putting needle race increases the susceptibility for tank slappers but I can't say that I've noticed!

954 owners were a bit concerned about their twtichy handling so fitted steering dampers instead. I don't think there is much need for one if you have your suspension sorted and don't take the piss over B roads.

I find my RRW to be very twitchy under hard acceleration. This could be just down to poor sus setup as mentioned. I do rate them as a bike though. Can still keep up with the new thous if ridden properly Thumbs Up

my RR-3/954's handling is excellent. no twitchiness.

had a bit of headshake powering out of a corner before but thats coz i nailed it and made the front go light, even done it on the 600 so thats not a 954 trait.

simple fact is re. 929 vs 954 is the 954 is the better bike (imo.. i bought one!) so the 929s price drops as people are more likely go go for the 954 if they're looking for something around that year.

its still an excellent bike though.

another point too is that.. thats just the price of them.

you can pick up a 954 for not much over £3 so mid £2.5s isnt hard to imagine for a decent 929

Well that rules out the majority of the sub 1000cc class and the Vtwin class. Not much left. A gsxr? Laughing
