If the police went there looking for her son, why were they looking under her mattress? Is he very flat?

"Hang on, he might be in this drawer" Rolling Eyes

Stupid place to hide a gun, anyway.

Five years, for having a mechanism under the matress. Oh, it's 'A Gun'. The law is a disease, it no longer has much to do with right and wrong and morality.

Under the circumstances, with the details the BBC news website have deigned necessary to share, that it was found under a mattress is neither here nor there surely? Or did it need to be in her underwear drawer to be less or more of a threat?

My point was (going by the report) she was hardly a threat to humanity.

So she is, I think though, still not Carlos the Jackal's life snuffing paramour.

Anyway, is it not an example of a stupid law and some poor auld wimmin being banged up (Prisoner Cell Block H style) for no good reason?

I rather think so. Where's Hetzer, he'd agree with me.

I completely agree 5 years seems very harsh. My point is she made an attempt to hide it so she must have know she shouldn't have had it.

Its a gun so two things: a) she's not going to leave it lying around the sitting room for the kids to play with and b) since its a gun she might have thought someone might be concerned that it was lying about (as opposed to her having it at all,) so she put it out of sight.

Basically, I reckon she knew she shouldn't leave it lying about in plain view but didn't know she shouldn't have it at all, it was after all, a relic.

It shouldn't even have went to court, the police should've taken it when it was found and issued advise and that would have been that. Have they prevented a crime or protected the public? No.

Thumbs Up

wow, thats pretty over the top,
i can't see why they just didnt take the gun off her, pop it in a museum and be done with it,
job done and no ones hurt,
putting her in jail for 5 years is crazy, not even rapists or pedo's get that,

Fucking hell. Shocked

5 years for having an heirloom pistol with no ammo. Shocked

My uncle Barty had a fucking arsenal of weaponary in his flat in Newcastle. He had all sorts of guns, handguns, rifles and shotguns. Loads of knives and other things you might need to take on a medium sized army. Not to mention a huge wooden box full of ammo.

He sadly died a few year ago and left all of this to his grandsons, who I don't think should even be allowed to have a plastic spoon in their hand let alone live weapons.
